However, based on the juveniles and gravid females collected to date, and the fact that Sphaerodactylus eggs take 2 to 3 months to hatch (Rivero 1978), the reproductive season is surmised to last from about March to November.
At that time, it was noted that a dense population of introduced fl rats (Rattus rattus) were present on the island and could be affecting the gecko's abundance.
The surveys should be conducted at least four times a year to determine the gecko's seasonal fluctuations in abundance and distribution, and its potential relationship to rats.

The medium bordering the delicup is kept moist, and the resulting air humidity keeps the leaf moist, which provides the egg with some managable direct contact with moisture.

A new species of lizard so small it can turn on a dime or stretch on a quarter--that's Sphaerodactylus ariasae, discovered on Beata Island (off the southwest coast of the Dominican Republic) by herpetologists S. Blair Hedges, of Pennsylvania State University, and Richard Thomas, of the University of Puerto Rico.
Just over half an inch long from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail, the lizard ties its cousin S. parthenopion for the title of smallest amniote--a group that includes reptiles, mammals, and birds.
