Spiderleg Records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spiderleg Records was an independent record label founded by UK anarcho-punk band Flux Of Pink Indians in 1981.
The band set up the label after releasing their first EP on the Crass Records label, which both taught them the skills necessary to run such a project and provided them with the seed cash.
The first record to be put out was a re-recording of older material made when the band were known as The Epileptics (they changed the name to EPI-X following complaints from the British Epilepsy Association and eventually emerged as Flux Of Pink Indians having reverted to The Epileptics and then The Licks).

 Kronstadt Uprising 1981 - 1987 Official History
Numerous unreleased demo recordings were also undertaken by the band, their final being recorded in 1986.
The main thing that arose from the Kronstadt's first demo recording though, was the fact that Steve sent a copy of it to Crass, who decided to include a track from it - Receiver Deceiver - on their forthcoming compilation album, Bullshit Detector Volume 2, which was ultimately released in September 1982.
To follow the recording the band played a triumphant concert at the Southend College of Technology on the 16/5/86 in front of a large crowd and this should have marked the start of the bands climb onto further heights.

They became Tentacles' first UK signing with the Arise album in 1985 and they didn't release another album until 1987's Monolith whose release/distribution difficulties led to the band eventually splitting, although they were to continue touring, their final tour ending in Sarejevo before the collapse of Yugoslavia.

It was without question influential and some of my favorite bands have literally lifted riffs straight from this record, but as I listen to "Arise!" for about the tenth time this week I can't help but be struck by how much AMEBIX are wearing their influences on their sleeve as well.
A curious band, Amebix were well-known as punk/hardcore mainstays, but their work had an undeniable metallic element, as well as proving influential on future metal bands (Sepultura and Neurosis have proudly listed them as influences, and in the latter case, the influence is clear, at least when listening to very early Neurosis work).
This record is a staple in any AMEBIX fans collection, and a must hear for folks who are not familiar with this legendary band.

So, Crass Records was started as a means of releasing the controversial Asylum track, and as so often happens, one thing lead to another and the most influential label of the 80s had begun.
Other Crass Records artists who have since appeared on One Little Indian are Annie Anxiety, DandV, The Sugarcubes (the new incarnation of KUKL), as well as The Very Things and The Baby Men.
Crass Records adopted the same system for their records; there was thus a separate code number for each year until 1984, with a suffix number to count the releases in each year.
