Spin (physics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Photons are spin-one particles, and the hypothetical graviton is a spin-two particle.
Spin was first discovered in the context of the emission spectrum of alkali metals.
Magnetic material may be modelled by a system of spins located at positions in a lattice, where the interaction of neighboring spins contributes to the total energy of the system and the states of the spins change according to some non-deterministic (probabilistic) rule (the dynamics of the system).

Spin (public relations) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Spin" was originally an acronym, "Significant Progress In the News," used by public relations specialists in the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) in the mid-1980s.
In public relations, spin is a usually pejorative term signifying a heavily biased portrayal in one's own favor of an event or situation.
Because of the frequent association between "spin" and press conferences (especially government press conferences), the room in which these take place is sometimes described as a spin room.

 Electron spin
An electron spin s = 1/2 is an intrinsic property of electrons.
The electron spin magnetic moment is important in the spin-orbit interaction which splits atomic energy levels and gives rise to fine structure in the spectra of atoms.
The electron spin magnetic moment is also a factor in the interaction of atoms with external magnetic fields (Zeeman effect).

 Spin Networks
Spin networks are states of quantum geometry in a theory of quantum gravity, discovered by Lee Smolin and Carlo Rovelli, which is the conceptual ancestor of the imaginary physics of Schild's Ladder.
If a quantum-mechanical particle starting out in a certain spin state (characterised by a total spin, j, and a component in the direction of the z-axis, m) is carried along a path through space, parallel transport will generally change the particle's spin state; this is the quantum-mechanical equivalent of the rotation of a classical vector.
The total spins on the edges aren't enough to fully describe a particle's spin state, though; there is still freedom to choose different values for m, the components of spin along the z-axis.

Left-arm orthodox spin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the sport of cricket, left-arm orthodox spin is the equivalent of off spin bowling, but bowled with the left hand.
Left arm spin is one of the more challenging arts of cricket because it requires long hours of practice to get the right line.
As a result, the ball spins away from a right-handed batsman, like leg spin.

 Spin
To stop the spin, untwist the torso, level the arms and allow the hips to come back inline, that is to where your head, spine, hips and the unicycle frame are all in a straight line.
As you spin, trim your side to side balance as necessary by changing the tilt of your arms a little.
I have done spins on my 24", but I think they may be easier to do on a 20" unicycle.

 Spin-off - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
The process of deriving new radio or television programs from existing ones is also referred to as spinning off (see list of television spin-offs).
If Blair really means what he says about ending spin and creating a new openness, he should start by taking his grubby hands off the Today programme.(watching...
The term is also used for concepts or products spun off a research project, for example methods or materials pioneered during the Manhattan Project or during the Space Race.

 Spin - Formal Verification
Spin works on-the-fly, which means that it avoids the need to preconstruct a global state graph, or Kripke structure, as a prerequisite for the verification of system properties.
Spin can be used as a full LTL model checking system, supporting all correctness requirements expressible in linear time temporal logic, but it can also be used as an efficient on-the-fly verifier for more basic safety and liveness properties.
Spin is a popular open-source software tool, used by thousands of people worldwide, that can be used for the formal verification of distributed software systems.

 Spin
Second, spin is facilitated by the forum provided by the media; in particular, spin as a political strategy has benefited from the proliferation of cable television and specifically the rise of political talk shows, which offers a stage for the practitioners of spin.
Spin can be proactive or reactive, can originate with a political actor or be carried out through surrogates, and can be a campaigning or governing activity (to the extent that the one set of political activities can be meaningfully extruded from the other).
Offensive spin typically involves attempting to change the subject, either by questioning the credibility of persons attacking, or by attacking the media in an attempt to raise the perceived stakes of pursuing a line of questioning a politician clearly indicates is out of bounds.

 Spin and Polarization
Photons too have quantum spin (they are spin-1 particles), but since photons travel at the speed c, the "spin axis" of a photon is always parallel to its direction of motion, pointing either forward or backward.
The photon's spin axis is always parallel to the direction of travel, whereas the polarization axis of a wave of light is perpendicular to the direction of travel.
The spin of a particle is quantized, so when we make a measurement at any specific angle we get only one of the two results UP or DOWN.

Amazon.com: Magazine Subscriptions: Spin [MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION]
When the Beastie Boys released Hello Nasty in 1998, Spin published three different editions of the magazine--each with a separate headshot of one member of the renegade hip-hop group.
Due to its well-funded birth, Spin rode the wave of the burgeoning alternative rock movement and was afforded the luxury of being as controversial as it wanted, forsaking at times somewhat slanted reporting in favor of the punch and jibe.
Spin rotates the same ten bands on its cover, not to mention the ridiculous articles written within.

 Spin - Version 4.2 - April 2005
Spin is distributed in source form to encourage research in formal verification, and to help a support friendly and open exchange of algorithms, ideas, and tools.
To avoid the name clash, you either have to edit the Spin source code to give it the full path name of the 'real' cpp.exe and recompile, or use Spin with the command-line option -Pxxxx where xxxx is the path for cpp.exe.
To run Spin, even from the precompiled version, you need a working C-compiler and a C-preprocessor, because Spin generates its model checking software as C-source files that require compilation before a verification can be performed.

Photons Spin More Data - September, 2002
Spin manifests when a photon's transverse components are out of phase, whereas orbital angular momentum affects the entire phase front of the beam.
The mechanical effects are visible in optically trapped specimens: Spin rotates trapped items on their own access axes, similar to the rotation of the Earth, where orbital angular momentum rotates them around the beam's axis, similar to the path of a satellite.
Although polarization enables only two photon spin states, photons can exhibit multiple orbital-angular-momentum eigenstates, allowing single photons to encode much more information.

 spin.sourceforge.net
Spin is built on top of virtual proxies and a technique borrowed from the java.awt.Dialog component: While a modal dialog has to wait for user input, the EDT is rerouted to the swing event processing to handle further events.
The Spin project is influenced by the Foxtrot project.
The core of Spin consists only of one class but it is a powerful solution for non-freezing Swing applications.

 Spinning Brains
For comparison, a spinning spaceship would likely rotate more slowly, perhaps 10 rpm, depending on the size and design of the craft.
Inside a spinning spaceship, on the other hand, there would be an artificial gravity (due to centrifugal forces) that keeps bodies strong and makes everyday living easier.
Researchers have long known that spinning spaceships like a merry-go-round could solve a lot of problems: In weightlessness, astronaut's bones and muscles weaken.

 Amazon.com: Books: Spin
Spin is the story of three-friends, told against the back-drop of the huge event of the stars suddenly vanishing from the sky and finding out what cuased it.
As it becomes clear that the Spin is not any sort of natural phenomenon, there are only two ways of explaining it: either it's a technological phenomenon created by unknown alien beings (the "Hypotheticals"), or it represents the direct action of God.
I really enjoyed this possible future where a membrane envelops the Earth causing a condition called the "spin" where time on Earth is passing slowly while the rest of the universe is aging at super fast speed.

 Spin Doctors
Formed in New York in 1991, the Spin Doctors began as Trucking Company in 1989 with Chris Barron (singer/songwriter), Eric Schenkman and John Popper, high school friends from Princeton, N.J. Popper left to form Blues Traveler, so Aaron Comess, New School (a school associated with Parsons) classmate joined the band.
According to Spin Doctors drummer Aaron Comess, Barron's affliction began during a string of shows in late May. "Chris woke up on a Monday morning and had no voice," he said.
Although the band was only one of many bands with their sound/style (jam-oriented blues), only the Spin Doctors made it big.

Scientists Obtain Evidence Earth's Spin Twists Space-Time Around It
If a frictionless gyro is placed near the flywheel, its axis of spin, the imaginary line around which the gyro revolves, will be dragged in the direction of the flywheel's rotation.
He said a spinning flywheel would impart a twist to space and time that would affect a nearby gyroscope.
The flywheel's impact would be infinitesimal and hard to measure because it is not a massive object, so scientists at the University of Maryland and the University of Lecce in Italy devised a way to measure the rotating impact of something much bigger, Earth, on two orbiting satellites six-thousand kilometers high.
