Another important regional farm product is grass seed, produced on hundreds of thousands of acres that supply much of the United States and world with seed for lawns, golf courses, parks, and pasture.
Today’s grass seed fields are somewhat similar to those original prairies, so they may provide some of the natural landscape features from the past that are mostly lost today.
"Grass Farming and the Environment" was published in the October 2005 issue of Agricultural Research magazine.

 Splendor in the Grass (1961)
Splendor in the Grass (1961) is another of director Elia Kazan's dramatic, hyperbolic films with daring and controversial content for its times - sexual repression and neurosis.
The time period of the plot occurs during the late 1920s and early 30s at the start of the disastrous Depression in a rural, SE Kansas town, coinciding with the intensity of a first love and the devastating consequences of repressed sexuality upon a pair of love-struck teenagers.
The mood and story line of the stormy relationship between two star-crossed, teenaged lovers parallels the poem as the adolescents meet, fall obsessively in love and become sexually awakened, face repressed sexual attitudes, parental pressures, turmoil, social constraints and class differences, and ultimately break up and are traumatized without consummating their love.

But ornamental grasses — the tufted, mounding cousins of meant-to-be-mowed turf grasses — have come into their own as an option for beautifying flower beds and backyards.
Ornamental grasses' elegant leaves and spiked or feathery flower heads inject unexpected textures when mixed into a bed of perennials and shrubs.
Such grasses are also valued for their unique "musical" qualities: When the wind blows, their slender shoots bend and rustle, whispering and sighing in ways few other plants can match.

Another sad parallel is Deanie's breakdown as she swims in the reservoir, since Wood's tragic demise would be as a result of the element that she feared most - water.
