Spline (device) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A spline consists of a long strip of wood (a lath, not to be confused with lathe) fixed in position at a number of points.
Spline devices help bend the wood for pianos, violins, violas, etc. The Wright brothers used one to shape the wings of their aircraft.
For instance, a gear mounted on a shaft might use a male spline on the shaft that matches the female spline on the gear.

The device as claimed in preceding claims, characterized in that the tooth tips of the gear element with the smaller inside diameter constitute a relatively small part of the total axial extent of the teeth of the gear element.

To accomplish this, the spline was forced to pass through the points by adjusting the ducks along the rod.
Splines consist of data points (knots), where the function is laid through, and break points, which divide the pieces of polynomial functions.
For example, splines have been proven useful to interpolate climatic data such as mean annual rainfall or temperature, but also to generate digital elevation models where it is necessary to interpolate large areas quickly and efficiently.

Most of these devices are corded, that is, they include a power cord that extends from the housing of the device to a source of electricity, or they include a pneumatic cord that extends from the housing of the device to a source of pressurized gas (typically nitrogen).
Motorized medical devices provide tremendous advantages in the treatment and repair of many medical conditions, but are typically limited in their capability of repeated use and in the inability or complexity of sterilizing the device between uses.
A device according to the present invention may also include structures that are configured for and/or are adapted to permit access to the device structure suitable for enclosing the non-sterile component.

The spline command computes a spline fitting a set of data points (x and y vectors) and produces a vector of the interpolated images (y-coordinates) at a given set of x-coordinates.
A spline is a device used in drafting to produce smoothed curves.
The points of the curve, known as knots, are fixed and the spline, typically a thin strip of wood or metal, is bent around the knots to create the smoothed curve.

Tightening latching device - Patent 5452925
Said spline assembly 4 is a one-piece component fabricated by molding, consisting of a housing slot 41 and positioning plate 42, wherein said spline assembly 4 is equipped with a stopping rod 43 at an appropriate position.
As of conventional metal tightening latching devices, it is not uncommon to find that the latch is gripped between the two round plates of said tightening protruding roller as said tightening protruding roller is being turned with a wrench, resulting in a great deal of efforts being needed to accomplish said task.
The tightening latching device pertaining to the present invention is free from problems, such as the protruding knob of the tightening protruding roller not being able to be governed by the protruding pieces on said latch and the tightening protruding roller being damaged when too great of a force is applied.

In contrast, in the appellant's device, three discrete members, including the upper part of the protruding portions in the loaded ball guide grooves provided on the outer tube, plate members 11 and a pair of return caps 31, cooperate together to provide the functions of the holder of this invention as discussed above.

About the Boston Scleral Lens Prosthetic Device
This fluid reservoir also functions as a unique liquid bandage that protects the corneal surface from the desiccating effects of exposure to air and the friction of blinking and significantly reduces the intensity of ocular pain and photophobia associated with ocular surface disease and facilitates the healing of persistent epithelial defects.
The potential for the BSL device to improve vision should be assessed by refracting over a large hard corneal contact lens that is adequately centered for this purpose.
Because this device is not supported by the central cornea, it maintains its centration and stability regardless of the corneal topography.

This device is the first fluid-ventilated gas-permeable scleral lens that maintains an oxygenated aqueous corneal environment free of air bubbles.
The bearing surface of the peripheral zone (haptic) is defined by spline functions that offer unequalled flexibility for creating seamless, non-conic shapes needed to achieve a more precise relationship with the underlying sclera to avoid occluding the channels or allow the intrusion of air bubbles.
Another unique feature of this device is the transitional zone, itself a flexible and elastic spline, that can be elongated or compressed to raise or lower the optic in micron increments while maintaining a smooth transition between the optic and haptic.

 Imaging On-Line Store
Whereas color devices were once modeled with extensive measurement, look-up tables and trilinear interpolation, recent improvements in hardware have made B-spline models an affordable alternative.
Inversion of the device model can then be carried out consistently and efficiently, as the spline model is well behaved and its derivatives easily computed.
Using data from several color devices, this paper examines the use of B-splines as a generic tool for modeling devices and mapping one gamut to another, and concludes with applications to high-dimensional and spectral data.

But on every interpreter I've tried the cusp of the wide spline is incorrect by several pixels, (4 long straight line segments are noticeable on the contour).

We have defined many device types, so hopefully the one you need is already in the default file.

Splines are a way of drawing curves -- specifically, drawing a curve through any set of _points_ that you choose; for example, a curve that starts at (0,0), goes over to (100,50), then loops back to (50,0), and continues on through any number of points can be drawn just by specifying the points.
Given a spline S1(t) = P0*(1-t)^2 + 2*P1*t*(1-t) + P2*t^2 the derivative at t=1 is given by S1' = 2*(P2 - P1) P2-P1 is simply the line segment running from P1 to P2, which verifies what was said earlier: at P2 the curve is tangent to a line drawn from P1 to P2.
One spline per point may sound like a lot, but there are a lot of pixels in-between each pair of points, and more importantly these are quadratic splines and hence can be made to go very, very fast.

In the device independent mode, test points are distributed so as to minimize the distance from any point in the device space to the nearest test chart value.
When the device dependent approach is used, test points are chosen so as to minimize the expected error between the resulting profile and the underlying device response.
Regular splines are not directly related to other types of splines, and do not generally suffer from the sort of "wiggles" and "overshoot" characteristic of other spline systems.

 Concept to Reality
The spline configuration was envisioned to be retracted during cruise flight and deployed only for landing, when the vortex hazard was greatest.
After extensive parameter variations in the VRF and in-flight assessments with the C-54 as a generating aircraft and a Piper PA-28 general aviation aircraft as a probe aircraft, the researchers concluded that the spline device was effective in reducing the strength of the trailing vortex.
The vortex attenuation achieved in flight was greater than that obtained in the VRF, and the researchers anticipated that the installation of stowable spline devices on commercial jet aircraft would avoid the obvious penalties in climb capability in the landing phase of flight and increased approach noise due to increased power settings.
