Split Enz saw in the 1980s with True Colours, produced by David Tickle and released on LP with a novelty laser-etched "ENZ" design which wouldn't affect the sound on the record itself.
Not that Split Enz was entirely history - the band reformed for TV appearances in 1989, 20th anniversary concerts in 1992, and played live at the stroke of midnight on January 1st, 2000 as well.

Having previously been a Crowded House fan, this was the record that introduced me to Split Enz and resulted in me buying their entire back catalogue.
One of many Enz 'best ofs', this CD presents the tracks in chronological order and gives you a really good feel of the change in sound over the years as Tim Finn's avant garde arty wierdness was eventually overpowered (at least in the Singles stakes) by Neil Finn's classic pop tunesmithery.
For the full experience, which must be seen to be believed, get the Split Enz DVD, or even better see them live on the next of their sporadic reunions.

Perhaps the reason so many have a dim view of this finale is because Tim Finn left after Conflicting Emotions, and left Neil in charge, who with percussionist Noel Crombie and keyboard-god Eddie Rayner represented the only survivors of the band's late 70s lineup.
The sound is geared much more toward synths, sequencers and drum machines than previous Enz fare, and Neil's somber songwriting conveys the feel of Crowded House much more than Split Enz.
I like it a lot, but some with less flexible interpretations of what made Split Enz the band that it was don't seem to enjoy it as much.
