Spoiled brat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A brat, or pleonastically spoiled brat (alternatively spelled spoilt brat in British English) is a child whose parents or other educators systematically fail to teach it to behave and to discipline its mischief, as the Old Testament warned not to spare the rod and spoil the child.
The word brat is recorded in the English language since circa 1505, as slang for "beggar's child," originally northern, Midlands and western England dialect "makeshift or ragged garment," probably the same word as Old English bratt "cloak," from a Celtic source (cfr.
Janey Harper from My Family (behaviour would imply she is spoilt, but it is never actually stated that she is)

From tiny beginnings, Viz went on to sell a million copies - and made characters such as the Fat Slags, Spoilt Bastard and Roger Mellie household names.
His brother Simon drew many of the comic's funniest characters, including Johnny Fartpants and Sid the Sexist, while Jim Brownlow's Paul Whicker The Tall Vicar was the original man behaving badly.
Chris subsequently recruited Graham Dury (Spoilt Bastard), Simon Thorp (Student Grant) and Davey Jones (Roger Irrelevant) who draw most of the comic to this day.

"The Thieving Gypsy Bastards" – an infamous strip seemingly aimed to solely offend the Roma, about the "Mc O'Dougles", a group of Gypsies who descend on a middle-class front garden and steal and vandalise everything in sight, with the approval of the local council.
Anticipating, no doubt, the inevitable flood of complaints about the strip, the publishers included a "compensatory" story entitled "The Good Honest Gypsies" in the same issue.

I'd have to add that the simplicity of some of the drawing (which was never incidentally just bad) became a recognisable style and developed into an "artform", if you'll pardon the expression, in its own right.
Graham Dory, who draws Ravey Davey and Spoilt Bastard at Viz, admits that he sometimes refers back to these artists "so I can see how they draw shoes or something".
It will no doubt be a disconcerting thought for Peter and Julian, but if Viz does have that sort of value, it owes a little part of it to the strange, roughlydrawn little boys, girls, elephants and snakes that careered through our Saturday mornings more than a decade ago.
