DJ Spooky   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Spooky is known for his theoretical spins as much as his DJ mixes.
We realized that a lot of kids from the different scenes weren't into just hearing a rock band or just hearing hip-hop; it was cool that you could have a lot of different stuff going on at the same time, moving through different spaces.
Spooky's music, even on disc, has a surprising emotional warmth and weight.

Mansonite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mansonite can also be used to refer to anyone who has chosen to identify with the goth subculture without having any idea of its actual nature or composition.
Generally, an overnight goth, or Spooky Kid, will adopt certain aspects of the goth aesthetic (predominantly fl clothing, outlandish hairstyles, body piercing, copious amounts of dark-coloured makeup and sometimes white-face foundation) and loudly proclaim themselves goth, directly in contrast to actual goths who let their appearances and attitudes speak for themselves.
Such announcements often shortly precede the writing of angst poetry, minor but much-flaunted self harm (again as an attention-seeker), interest in vampires and claims of openly practicing Satanism.

 Mordred, The Spooky Kid
A teenage runaway, the Spooky Kid found his true calling when found by the NACW and AGCW Superstar, The Forgotten Poet, while squatting in an abandoned gym in Calgary, Alberta.
The Poet trained the young Mordred, and took the Spooky Kid under his wing for a time, eventually bringing him to the NACW, where he became a member of the stable the Dark Poet's Society.
After an unfortunate incident involving Mayhem betraying Mordred shortly after the Spooky Kid won the NACW World Heavyweight Title from Hank Brimstone, Mordred cut all ties with the Missionaries and he and Akasha decided to go it alone.

Splendid Magazine reviews DJ Spooky (That Subliminal Kid): Songs of a Dead Dreamer
Arguably the father of illbient and a driving force in the trip-hop movement, Spooky's groove-heavy brand of ambient electro has, over the course of the last six years, proven itself to be infinitely timeless and massively influential.
Never before had the world heard such a conglomeration of sound -- a chopped-up, rewired and washed-over sonata of hip-hop breaks, skiffling beats and cold-wave shivers; it was dance music that you couldn't conceivably dance to, classical music too techn(o)ical for the symphony, and rock music without the slightest hint of a revved-up guitar.
It was music without boundaries, and little did Spooky (or anybody else for that matter) know that it would soon become the sound in which the (dance) world wrapped itself, the better to forget the inanity of everyday living.

 Encyclopedia Gothica: Spooky Kid
However, the term "Spooky Kid" has come to have a more broad reference in the gothic scene to incorporate all teens that identify with the gothic scene in order to find an identity.
Goths consider the term derogatory, and find it annoying that the immature antics of spooky kids are often what is used by the media to define goth.
While goths consider spooky kids brainless poseurs, spooky kids tend to consider goths snobs and elitists due to the way they are treated by goths.

This album is chock full of creaky stuff, mostly in the treble range, almost always overprocessed, out of focus, or layed too deeply for comprehension.
Spooky does a very nice job of re-hashing and meshing his incidental recordings into an orchestrated noise experience.
Almost everything in it is taken from elsewhere; bubbles lifted from Sub Dub, sitar and other stringed components, things that sound like audio from an oscilliscope.

 The Flick Filosopher | Birth
It's icky to think that anyone may have been inspired creatively by Mary Kay LeTourneau, that creepy teacher who molested one of her students, had children with him, and now claims to want to spend her life with him, but here we have Birth, which hovers dangerously close to romanticizing pedophilia.
The spooky kid is Sean (Cameron Bright: Godsend, The Butterfly Effect), who's ten years old but claims to be the husband of Anna (Nicole Kidman: The Stepford Wives, Cold Mountain), who was also named Sean and died a decade earlier -- died mere moments before, the film suggests, young Sean was born.
And Anna is such a sad, pale sack of emotional emptiness that she actually becomes obsessed with this child, who frankly doesn't even have the boyish, childish charm of the average kid to recommend him.
