Spooling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is similar to a sewing machine spool, which a person puts thread onto, and a machine pulls at its convenience.
It can also refer to a storage device that incorporates a physical spool, such as a tape drive.
Likewise, a storage area for Usenet articles may be referred to as a news spool.

 Spooling machine - Patent 4817879
A spooling machine for the simultaneous spooling of at least two threads on an equal quantity of winding places, which are arranged so as to be adjacent to one another in a row, is equipped with a belt-type traversing device.
The spooling machine as defined in claim 7 including means for angular adjusting said guide rail (38), said deflectors (47a-d; 51a-d) being formed to move in response to said angular adjusting so that the winding becomes conical in correspondance to said angular adjusting.
However, the invention is also usable in spooling machines whose belt-type traversing devices comprise two revolving continuous belts, wherein--as is known from the texts given as prior art--an intermediate portion of one belt is adjacent to an intermediate portion of the other belt which is moved in the opposite direction.

Enhanced Metafile Spooling Architecture in Windows NT 4.0
EMF spool files are used to greatly reduce the amount of time that elapses between a request to print (initiated by an application) and the return of control to the application by the operating system.
In the background, the spool file is spooled to the server, and the server converts the EMF data into a format suitable for the output device.
An example of a raw spool file is an encapsulated PostScript file, which is formatted to be understood by the PostScript printer for which it is destined.

What is spooling? - A Word Definition From the Webopedia Computer Dictionary
Acronym for simultaneous peripheral operations on-line, spooling refers to putting jobs in a buffer, a special area in memory or on a disk where a device can access them when it is ready.
Because the documents are in a buffer where they can be accessed by the printer, you can perform other operations on the computer while the printing takes place in the background.
Spooling also lets you place a number of print jobs on a queue instead of waiting for each one to finish before specifying the next one.

Process for winding a newly joined thread onto a tube newly inserted in a spooling device - Patent 4501116
To carry out this process, there are, on an open-end spinning mechanism, provided with a thread-joining device and a spooling device, a thread-suction device (4), a thread feeder (42) transferring the thread (35) supplied to the thread-suction device (4) to a newly inserted tube, and a thread-severing device (41) assigned to the thread-suction device (4).
Since the thread run is prolonged to beyond the spooling device after the full bobbin has been ejected and after the new tube has been inserted, the newly joined thread and the thread being guided away is located between the drive roller of the spooling device and the tube.
A thread-catching device which is provided on the spooling device and which can catch the thread only in the region of the tube facing away from the clamping line therefore moves in a direction opposite to the thread transport direction so that the thread is slackened when received by the tube.

I bought a huge spool of the stuff when it first came out and continue to use it because of the way it fishes, but Berkley really needs to look into the knotting problem on spinning reels.
No matter how tight you spool it on the reel (typical advice), as soon as you make a long cast, you're only spooled as tight as the resitance of the retrieve for the full length of the working line, so that would only be a solution on your very first cast.
Spooled properly you will need more than 300 yds of line to fill the CS M to the top.

TS-DOC: TS-519 - SPOOLING MAINFRAME SAS/GRAPH OUTPUT TO ASCII PRINTERS
What makes spooling of mainframe graphics output to ASCII printers a difficult task is making sure that a proper EBCDIC-to-ASCII translation takes place between the EBCDIC mainframe and the ASCII printer (or in certain situations, that no EBCDIC-to-ASCII translation takes place at all).
When attempting to directly spool mainframe graphics to an ASCII printer, you also have to consider what software products are involved in the spooling process.
Spooling the data in ASCII passthrough mode is the same as performing a binary download of an ASCII file on disk.

Ideally (and this is what the spooling station does), have a friend put a pencil through the center of the spool and keep tension on it.
You then reel the line on until the line is 1/8" lower than a line drawn from the two edges of the spool.
Come to think of it, spooling spinning reels is pretty darn similar, except there may be many more personal preferences.

WHAT IS SPOOLING   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The alternative to this is to spool or bobbin wind the product, in a similar fashion to a roll of cotton.
A core of several times the tape width is used, and the tape is laid in a spiral pattern, from side to side.
Factor in the increase in running speed because of the reduction in change overs and the effect of the increased roll stability, and you have a compelling economic and operational case for using spools.

Optical Flange Detector enhances spooling accuracy., Amacoil Inc.
Additionally, spooling accuracy is enhanced because optically detecting the flanges eliminates human error in positioning the end stops.
The spools used must therefore be a bright color or made of a lustrous material to reflect the needed light.
Both styles of Amacoil flange detection systems accurately detect the spool flanges and therefore warped spools or spools with damaged flanges should not be used.

Mark Simonson Studio / Notebook: Lego, the Type Designer's Friend
The master negatives exist in the form of small spools of 2-inch wide negative film around 50 feet long.
Here’s the really clever bit: To keep the film spools in tension (so they stay where I want them and don’t unravel), I devised a simple ratchet mechanism which allows the spools to turn freely in only one direction—away from the other spool.
It could look nicer, but a lot of our Lego pieces are otherwise engaged in other projects built by my daughter and I, so I had to scrounge for pieces among the dregs that met the bare minimum requirements.

Net::Spooler - A Perl extension for writing spooling daemons
This package contains a spooling daemon, in other words a process, that accepts files from an outside source (currently a Unix or TCP/IP socket), stores them in a spooling directory and processes them.
This means that the file will be removed from the spool directory and a message is sent to the administrator.
If the method returns without raising an exception, then the scheduler assumes that the file was processed successfully and remove it from the spool directory.

A payout assembly on one side of the platter feeds film from one disc to the projector and takes the film back from the projector to spool onto a second disc.
The discs are large enough to hold one large spool of the entire film, which the projectionist assembles by splicing together all of the lengths of film from the different reels.
Splicing is the process of cutting the end of one strip of film so that it carefully matches up to the beginning of the next strip of film, and then taping the strips together.
