		The Spotted Flycatcher, Muscicapa striata, is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family.
		Spotted Flycatchers hunt from conspicuous perches, making sallies after passing flying insects, and often returning to the same perch.
		Spotted Flycatcher shows excellent egg recognition, and it is likely that it was once a host of the Cuckoo, but became so good at recognising the intruder's eggs that it ceased to be victimised.

		Spotted Flycatchers are more easily identified by their characteristic feeding actions than by plumage. They prefer prominant perches where they have a good view, then watch carefully for passing insects and fly out to catch them, usually returning to the same perch.

		The place was really good for birdwatching, as there was almost nobody and the forest was very well conserved, with plenty of fallen trees and different species of coniferous trees and deciduous trees, and there were also open fields and small rivers.

		Panama Flycatchers were soon found and then in the edge of the mangrove itself, some pygmy-owl impressions from Kev and responsive squeaking by me brought in all our hoped for species.

		From time to time I have seen birds perch in the top of our hedge, launch off apparently in pursuit of an insect and return to their perch.
		This behaviour immediately made me think of flycatchers but, on each occasion, I have been unable to convince myself that the bird in question was anything other than a House Sparrow.
		The concensus of opinion amongst more expert friends is that this is indeed a spotted flycatcher.

		One PACIFIC LOON was spotted on June 7th, with another being recorded on the 13th.
		PARASITIC JAEGERS put in a couple of appearances: 2 were spotted on 6/7, and 3 on the 13th A single POMARINE JEAGER was spotted on the 12th, while 1 LONG-TAILED JAEGER was seen on the 9th.
		Certainly a highlight of the week, albeit one from our side of the pond, was the OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER found on the 10th.

		May: Despite there being no change in the weather, an arrival of scarce migrants included a male Subalpine Warbler (of the eastern race albistriata), a Wryneck, female Bluethroat, a Turtle Dove (year-tick) and the re-appearance of the Nightingale at Leogh (apparently it has been living in the chicken shed at Midway!).
		The Collared Flycatcher was not seen in the morning but re-appeared when the fog had lifted in the afternoon.
