Tide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The tide is the cyclic rising and falling of Earth's ocean surface caused by the tidal forces of the Moon and the Sun acting on the Earth.
The changing tide produced at a given location on the Earth is the result of the changing positions of the Moon and Sun relative to the Earth coupled with the effects of the rotation of the Earth and the local bathymetry (the underwater equivalent to topography).
Spring tides result in high waters that are higher than average, low waters that are lower than average, slack water time that is shorter than average and stronger tidal currents than average.

Tide - Facts, Information, and Encyclopedia Reference article
The loss of rotational energy of the earth, due to friction within the tides, and the gravitational effects caused by tidal deformations of the earth's body, are responsible for the slowdown of the earth's rotation and the increase of the distance to the moon, see Tidal force.
The tides' range is then at its maximum: this is called the "spring tide", or just "springs" and is derived not from the season of spring but rather from the German verb springen, meaning "to leap up".
These depths are relative to "chart datum", which is the level of water at the lowest possible astronomical tide (tides may be lower or higher for meteorological reasons) and are therefore the minumum water depth possible during the tidal cycle.

tide is the vertical rise and fall of the sea level surface caused primarily by the change in gravitational attraction of the moon, and to a lesser extent the sun.
Tide: The vertical rise and fall of the surface of a body of water caused primarily by the differences in gravitational attraction of the moon, and to a lesser extent the sun, upon different parts of the earth when the positions of the moon and sun change with respect to the earth.
Spring Tide: The tidal effect of the sun and the moon acting in concert twice a month, when the sun, earth and moon are all in a straight line (full moon or new moon).

The average height at spring tide between high and low-water marks is called " the spring rise "; the similar height at neap tides is, however, called " the neap range." " Neap rise " is used to mean the average height between high-water of neap tides arid low-water of spring tides.
Spain, and connects the tides correctly with the motion of the moon, He also gives the law of the tide in the Indian Ocean as observed by Seleucus the Babylonian, and the passage shows that Seleucus had unravelled the law which governs the diurnal inequality of the tide in that sea.
Observation shows, however, that spring tides occur a day and a half after full and change of moon, and Newton falsely attributed this to the fact that the oscillations would last for some time if the attractions of the two bodies were to cease.

 The Moon And Tides
The word "tides" is a generic term used to define the alternating rise and fall in sea level with respect to the land, produced by the gravitational attraction of the moon and the sun.
Tides are the periodic rise and falling of large bodies of water.
Spring tides happen when the sun and moon are on the same side of the earth (New Moon) or when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth (Full Moon).

The tide wave produced by the moon is greater magnitude and continually moves eastward relative to tide wave produced by the sun and therefore the tide forces produced by the moon are greater and more important than that of the sun (therefore tidal day 24h50m).

Spring tides alternate at one week intervals with "neap tides." Neap tides occur during the first or third quarter moons when the sun and moon are aligned at right angles with respect to earth, and the sun tides subtract from the moon tides.
Perigean spring tides occur at intervals that are slightly more than six months long, so each year they are later in the season than the preceding year.

SPRING: The noun and the verb ‘spring’ come from the same source: the Indo-European base ‘sprengh-,’ which denoted rapid movement.’ Of its Germanic verbal descendents, German and Dutch ‘springen,’ like English ‘spring,’ have moved on semantically to ‘jump,’ but interestingly Swedish ‘springa,’ run, has stayed closer to its roots.
SPRING TIDE : 1) The exceptionally high and low tides that occur at the time of the new moon or the full moon when the sun, moon, and earth are approximately aligned.
It is interesting, however, that the two ‘tides’ are related in that the ‘sea tide’ arose from the notion of the ‘fixed time’ of the high and low points of the tide.

Solar tides are about half as large as lunar tides and are expressed as a variation of lunar tidal patterns, not as a separate set of tides.
When the sun, moon, and Earth are in alignment (at the time of the new or full moon), the solar tide has an additive effect on the lunar tide, creating extra-high high tides, and very low, low tides—both commonly called spring tides.
One week later, when the sun and moon are at right angles to each other, the solar tide partially cancels out the lunar tide and produces moderate tides known as neap tides.
