Springer Mountain is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Fannin County of northern Georgia.
In 1958, the southern end of the Appalachian Trail was moved from Mount Oglethorpe approximately 14 miles to the northeast to Springer Mountain because of increased development around Mount Oglethorpe.
Springer Mountain Shelter is located at coordinates (84.19293W, 34.62883) on a spur trail leading about 70 yards (64 m) east of the Appalachian Trail.

The Indians bypassed Springer and its surrounding mountains and settled in the Cohutta Mountains of Northwest Georgia.
At 3,782 feet, Springer is the mountain which divides the northern and southern extensions of the Appalachians in Georgia--one branch heading northwest to the Cohuttas, the other southwest to Mount Oglethorpe.
Springer Mountain can be reached in a number of the ways, the most popular of which is by the approach trail at Amicalola Falls State Park.

I was pouncing with pure joy as I came down the mountain and was glad that I'd taken the approach trail this time while also revealing a new side to Springer Mountain that I'd never seen before.
This was especially nice since the whole mountain could be seen from the south side unlike any such possibility from the north side.
This was the first view of Springer Mountain and a view that cannot be seen from north of the mountain so if there is a stong argument for hiking the 9 mile approach trail then this photo offers a compelling reason.

Took this route in reverse, starting from Hightower Gap and ascending to Springer Mountain and then down the approach trail to Amicalola Falls State Park.
Trails were in great shape, as were the shelters at Hawk Mountain and Springer Mountain.
Would not recommend attempting to find the Hightower Gap trailhead parking lot in the dark in the National Forest, the USFS roads are poorly marked and the directions given by the ranger were misleading.

She was feeling the effects of motion sickness again and it took us about 50 minutes to hike the.9 mile to Springer Mtn.
Looking through the trees to the hollows beneath the trail as it wound around the ridges and sides of the mountains was a beautiful sight.
But speaking seriously a you had a great trip down there, certainly it would be even more interesting to see the photos, not necessarily mountains- just whatever your heart desires...And about sleeping with mice running over you...I am trully amazed with all the hardships you are ready to go through.
