Soon thereafter it formed official ties with the Young Men's Christian Association when Robert Ross McBurney, known as "the father of the New York City Y.M.C.A." was elected as vice president of the Board of Trustees of the School.
However, there were other roles for Springfield College alumni in the delivery of recreation leadership services in Canada; namely, as workers in the community, in school and university settings and in commercial enterprises.
In order to determine the contribution that Springfield College made to the training of Canadians, it was also necessary to determine which of these alumni working in Canada were originally from Canada.
