In an area where the houses built by most wealthy landowners are brick Georgian or Federal design, Oakwood is a Gothic villa, the finest in the county and, indeed, one of the best of the genre in New Jersey.
This small meeting house is unusual among those in Burlington County in being constructed of stone.
It thus resembles Friends' Meeting Houses in Bucks County and other parts of eastern Pennsylvania, rather than the brick examples more common on the Jersey side of the Delaware.
