The destroyer evolved from the need of navies to counter a new ship which made a devastating debut in the Chilean Civil War of 1891 and in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894.
This was the swift, small torpedo boat that could dash in close to the larger ships, loose their torpedoes and dash away.
From the first U.S. destroyer commissioned in 1902 to the famous ships of World War II to the Spruance-class to the Arleigh Burke-class, the U.S. Navy's destroyers have been evolving.

  SPRUANCE class
The SPRUANCE class is a class of large destroyers launched starting in the 1970s, and incorporated many design changes that distinguish them from any USN destroyers that came before.
The SPRUANCE class mounts its fire control radars higher than most USN ships, with a Lockheed SPQ 9A on the mast (the dome) and a Lockheed SPG 60 (the fire control radar for the guns) above that (the dish).
The SPRUANCE class carries a Lockheed SPS 40 (B, C, or D) air search radar on the aft mast; presumably this radar is mounted internally.

 Definition of Spruance class destroyer
The Spruance-class destroyer was developed as a replacement for a large number of World War II-built Allen M. Sumner- and Gearing-class destroyers, and was the primary destroyer built for the U.S. Navy during the 1970s.
The class was originally designed for anti-submarine warfare with only point defense missiles for the AAW role although subsequent upgrades have provided anti-ship and land attack capabilities.
The entire class of thirty ships was contracted with a single shipyard to facilitate mass construction on 23 June 1970 although labor and technical problems delayed construction.

The Spruance Class is a very stable helicopter platform due to the location of the helicopter pad.
Having never seen the propellers of a Spruance Class DD I can not comment on their accuracy but they look okay to me. After market ones are available.

The USS Moosbrugger's keel was laid on November 3, 1975 at Litton Shipyards in Pascagoula, MS.
Launched on July 23, 1976 and commissioned on December 16, 1978, the USS Moosbrugger is the eighteenth in a series of 31 Spruance Class destroyers.
She arrived in Charleston just prior to Christmas, 1978, and was the first of many Spruance Class destroyers to call Charleston home.
