		A new SPUI on California 237 in Mountain View generated letters to the newspaper asking why the interchange was so strange.
		The new SPUI at Monument Boulevard on I-680 in Walnut Creek was a focus of the Spring 1996 issue.
		A variant of the SPUI was considered for the improvement of the North Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas.

		Although this may sound like a the single-point directional interchange (SPDI), the SPUI deviates in the way that the intersection is intentionally skewed to allow for concurrent left turns, from the freeway to the road, and then from the road onto the freeway.
		Moreover, cars turning right onto the road from the freeway and cars turning right onto the freeway from the road are typically given their own turning ramps, so that nonstop traffic flow is provided in those directions.
		Some of the intersections formed by a SPUI might be so skewed that when a light turns green, cars coming from two different directions might see the light, and both go at once, resulting in a dangerous situation.
