		At first it's impossible to engage the movie, because it's trying to operate on such a different level, to give you a totally different type of consciousness but after a minute or two you are so sucked into the world of the movie that everything outside of it just disappears.
		Spun simultaneously manages to refuse to sink that low and dish it out like it's never been dished before.

		Ultimately, what fails about Spun isn't its storytelling incompetence and the frenetic overreaching of its inexperienced cast, but the fact that it says almost nothing about addiction while saying a lot about how much fun it looks like to be a beautiful young actor playing "dress down" in a message movie.
		Spun is self-aggrandizing babble about nothing in particular, a picture that takes aim at the heart of a genuine malady and makes a music video out of it in all its slickified mock pretension, beautiful bodies, and guilty titillation.

		Co-written very autobiographically by Will De Los Santos, Spun has the presumably decent Ross (Schwartzman) falling in with a troupe of frenetic people whose behavior ranges from tweaked to sweet to paranoid to horny to violent to oddly calm.
		Roberts, as a flaming gay man, acts opposite Rourke almost as a joke, but for those of us who loved these charismatic guys in The Pope of Greenwich Village, the pairing is oddly touching.
		Cooking the meth like a deranged Julia Child, Rourke further shows how funny and talented he is. One almost wishes this scene were in the movie—with all the other images, it's not like it wouldn't make any sense.
