Spurn is a narrow sand spit peninsula on the tip of the coast of Yorkshire, England that reaches into North Sea and forms the north bank of the mouth of the Humber estuary.
Spurn has a 250-year cycle of destruction and reconstruction, as the sea cuts across the peninsula, and everything beyond the breach is swept away.
Spurn is situated 16 km to the south east of Withernsea, and 40 km to the east of Hull.

 Lighthouses of England's North Sea Coast
The club was able to acquire the light tower of Lightship 88 as a substitute, although the two towers are not identical.
Built at Goole on the Ouse, the ship served at the Spurn station, 7.5 km (4.5 mi) east of Spurn Point, until 1959, when it was moved to the Bull Shallows station just off Spurn Point.
Spurn Point is a spit curving out into the northern side of the entrance to the Humber.

On the 18th November that same year the lightship SPURN was placed on her station, one which had previously been occupied by the Newsand Light and Whistle Buoy, at the entrance to the Humber, four miles, nautical position 104° from from Spurn Lighthouse.
The Spurn Light Vessel was commissioned by the Humber Conservancy Board whose annual report for the year ending 31st December 1927, commented on how modern a ship she was.
In May 1959 a new SPURN lightship was accepted by the Conservancy Board and placed on station on the 3rd June 1959.

LV No.12 (Spurn) was built for the Humber Conservancy Board by the Goole Shipbuilding and Repairing Company in 1927 at a cost of £17,000.
She was commissioned as Spurn light vessel, the first on that station, on 17th November 1927 and removed to Middle Humber (Grimsby Middle position) 27th October 1939 marking the Naval river defence boom.
Restored to her original fl colour, she was berthed in Hull Marina in 1986 and opened to the public the following year.
