Spy Kids - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spy Kids is the name of an film trilogy released from 2001 to 2003.
The Spy Kids films are about the children of a married spy couple who become involved in their parents' espionage.
"Spy Kids" was a surprise hit, opening with $26.5 million and grossing a total of $112.7 million USD in North America and $35.2 million over-seas.

Spy Kids DVD review on AudioRevolution.com
Unusually, "Spy Kids" is well-structured but the story itself won't exactly hold your interest; it's more a matter of a premise being fulfilled than a solid story being told.
What the kids don't know (but we do) is that they were international spies for different countries, whose paths crossed often enough until they fell in love and got married.
"Spy Kids" is very briskly paced; there's hardly a slow moment in it, and when there is, Rodriguez parodies it (Juni's behavior on the way to the safe house, for example).

 DVD.net : Spy Kids - DVD Review
Kid stars can either make or break a production (did someone say Phantom Menace?), but to get two talented kids that fire on all cylinders, and seem to have a natural sibling affinity on screen, is nothing short of amazing.
It shows how the kids were trained for the stunts in the film, the willingness of the other stars to get into the action, and how Rodriguez dived with a group of 40 hungry sharks to obtain some of the underwater footage.
In Spy Kids, Rodriguez has used his skills to craft a film that is aimed directly at kids, whilst not ignoring the rules of good film making.

"Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams" / a review from Christian Spotlight on the Movies
Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams is the sequel to the wildly popular Spy Kids of 2001.
Spy Kids 2 is along the same lines, though there is some content that parents may find objectionable (like some crude humor, gratuitous body noises, nose picking jokes, Carmen's bare pot-belly in a formal dinner scene, etc.) And, like the original, the shitake mushroom joke is again rehashed.
The fight scenes in Spy Kids 2 weren't too violent- nothing a kid wouldn't be able to see on a children's TV show.

 Movie-List - Reviews - Spy Kids
The kids learn that their parents are spies when an evil toy manufacturer and television personality captures their parents.
Gregorio Cortez and Ingrid Cortez (not her maiden name) were spies who spent a great deal of their time trying to hunt the other down, but through all of their chasing they begin to fall for eachother and one day they were wed.
Apparently several OSS (the spy organization to which the Cortezes belong) agents have gone missing and it is their task to find them.

SPY KIDS. A Hollywood Jesus Movie Review
Spy Kids is a fun movie with unbelievable situations and villains (a cross between Dr. Suess and Pee Wee Herman) that the audience enjoys throughout the film.
The best kind of kid?s movie, in my opinion, is the one the actually makes kids gather empty cardboard boxes, colored paper, glue and other things, to build their own submarines, helicopters and jets - build their own toys, create, draw "Flooglies" and all those exciting things you can do with your imagination.
Spy Kids will also provide wonderful opportunities to talk about Christian concepts such as the forgiveness that we have received through Christ, despite the bad things we have done in our lives.

 Spy Kids Movie Review
"Spy Kids" is a fun-filled, if slight, children's variation on James Bond, with two child protagonists, lots of action, spiffy special effects, and an overabundance of neat gadgets.
While far from perfect, "Spy Kids" is an intermittently dynamite entertainment that, sure enough, manages to be exciting, with hair-raising stunts and plenty of non-violent fight scenes that have no danger of offending anyone.
Flawed or not, "Spy Kids" is one of those rare breeds--a live-action family film that relies on intelligence and adventure to tell its story, rather than flatulence and doggy-do-do jokes.

 Filmtracks: Spy Kids (Debney/Elfman/Rodriguez)
Spy Kids: (Debney/Elfman/Rodriguez) From a logistical perspective, the music for this new kiddie adventure flick is the kind of nightmare that would have been inconceivable in Hollywood just ten years ago.
For Spy Kids, you can picture these people walking into the studio, mucking around for a while, spontaneously conjuring up a minute of ideas, testing out these ideas like a group of giddy teenagers with new band equipment in the garage, and then going to lunch.
In any case, the frenetic score for Spy Kids gives the listener the impression that the group of composers had a lot of effortless fun working together on the project.

Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara) decided he no longer wanted to be a Spy Kid; he hung up his OCC ID and went into business for himself as a small-time gumshoe.
The beauty of Spy Kids 2, for me, was in its unassuming wit and charm, in the way it reflected creator Robert Rodriguez's vision without that stereotypes, and that it celebrated real, honest-to-goodness family values [no, not the ones in those empty slogans touted by political pimps on the Left and the Right.
Spy Kids 3-D, on the other hand, seemed less interested in its story and more interested in the techie stuff.

BBC - Films - review - Spy Kids
Whether or not films with blazing guns or rivers of blood cause youngsters to stop arguing with their parents and annihilate them instead, violence has certainly affected director Robert Rodriguez.
Like a modern, high-tech version of the Famous Five (except there are only two youngsters in this film), "Spy Kids" keeps the fantasy element of children's adventures intact, and so the dweeby, bullied kid emerges as a real hero.
In a film of this sort, magic is usually created by a number of super, soaraway sequences whose originality and dazzle result in all children (including Rodriguez's own) leaving the cinema in a happy, smiley trance.

 Spy Kids
This old adage can be applied to Spy Kids, an enjoyable children's action score which is rendered just a little overly-schizophrenic through the use of eight - count 'em - eight different composers.
Basically, Spy Kids is a James Bond adventure story with a difference - the protagonists are pre-teens.
Considering all these diverse musical influences, one would expect Spy Kids to be a bit of a hotchpotch score, and occasionally it does jump around from style to style a little too abruptly.

The sequel opens with the president's daughter (Taylor Momsen, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas") visiting a theme park, whose owner (a nice little cameo from Bill Paxton) gives her a tour of the rides, such as one that literally juggles the containers that the riders sit in.
When she traps herself on one of the rides in an attempt to get attention from her father, the Spy Kids, Juni (Daryl Sabara) and Carmen (Alexa Vega) come to the rescue.
After said device is stolen, the kids find themselves trying to compete to get a new mission which will take them to a lost island where giant mutated creatures (such as a "Spider-Monkey") roam freely.

By making the heroes of this film specifically children, `Spy Kids' fulfills that need children have to feel that they too can be an active part of a power-conferring fantasy rather than just the passive observers they usually end up being in a real world controlled by adult concepts and adult rules.
Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino star as Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez, two dashing former spies who have traded in the exciting world of field espionage for less glamorous `desk jobs' in the spy organization so that they can raise their two children, Carmen and Juni, in a more normal, less hectic and less dangerous environment.
One of the problems with `Spy Kids' is that it seems to mistake frenetic activity for humor and wit.

The plot, which hardly matters, is about the spy kids from the first movie, siblings Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni (Daryl Sabara) Cortez, trying to keep some technological doohickey that could devastate the world out of the wrong hands.

Spy Kids No. 1 at box office
LOS ANGELES - The big story at the weekend box office was not which movie came in first - it was "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" with $32.5 million - but which of four possible contenders placed second.
The horse tale had the highest earnings per theater with $10,809 - compared with "Spy Kids 3-D," which had $9,719 and the other second-place competitors, which climbed no higher than $6,900.
"Spy Kids 3-D" nearly doubled the debut earnings of last summer's "Spy Kids 2." The film attracted a broader teenage audience with its paper blue-and-red tinted glasses, which made some images appear to pop off the screen, said Bob Weinstein, co-founder of Miramax Films, whose Dimension banner released the movie.
