Squadron Sergeant Major (SSM) is the equivalent in the Royal Armoured Corps, Special Air Service, Royal Engineers, Royal Corps of Signals, Army Air Corps and Royal Logistic Corps.
Battery Sergeant Major (BSM) is the equivalent in the Royal Artillery and Squadron Corporal Major (SCM) in the Household Cavalry.
However, a cavalry SSM is often addressed as "Mr (surname)" by officers, and as "Mr (surname), Sir" by his inferiors, with the salutation "Sergeant Major" being reserved for Staff Sergeants.

Corporal Leonard B. Eversole, 30th Bombardment Squadron, 19th Bombardment Group (M), is officially credited with the destruction of one (1) MIG-15 type aircraft in aerial combat near Sinanju, North Korea at 1012I on 27 October 1951.
Corporal Eversole was central fire control gunner in a B-29 flying number two position of Baker Flight consisting of four aircraft.
Corporal Eversole fired into the MIG-15 which was observed to level off and fly parallel to the B-29.

In Germany, Austria and Russia the regimental serjeant-majors of infantry and cavalry are styled Feldwebel and Wachtmeister respectively, while in France the titles are adjuaant and marchal des logis or marchal des logis chef.

Warrant officers were generally introduced throughout the British Army under Army Order 70 of 1915, although Regimental Sergeant Majors and a few other appointments (beginning in 1879, when Conductors of Stores and Supplies were warranted), had been warranted before that time.
WO2s holding Sergeant Major or Corporal Major appointments are often referred to as the "Sergeant Major" or the "Corporal Major", but WO1s are only ever referred to using their full appointment or its abbreviation (the "RSM" or the "Garrison Sergeant Major", for instance).
WO2s are commonly addressed as "Sergeant Major", "Corporal Major" or "Q" (for Quartermaster Sergeants) as appropriate (or as "sir" or "ma'am").

While his book focuses on the flying activities of his No. 3 Squadron, McCudden himself was grinding inlet valves and replacing engines; he was promoted to Corporal in November, 1914.
In August, 1916, he posted to No. 29 Squadron, to fly D.H.2's, "a cold little machine," but lighter and more maneuverable than the two-place F.E. On September 6, he was patrol over Ypres, when he spotted a two-seater and gave chase.
In the summer, he was invited to go on patrol with the prestigious No. 56 Squadron, the best British scout unit inthe Great War.
