 Squantz Pond State Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Squantz Pond is located approximately 8 miles (13 km) north of Danbury, Connecticut in the towns of Sherman, Connecticut and New Fairfield, Connecticut, in Fairfield County.
Squantz Pond is natural in origin; however, its level was raised when Candlewood Lake was impounded in 1923.
The watershed of Squantz Pond is 3,635 acres (15 km²).

Pets are not permitted in the park during the summer season from April 15 through September 30.
Squantz Pond offers four season enjoyment with steep, wooded slopes, a cool, blue pond and colorful foliage to delight visitors throughout the year.

The pond is fed by Glen Brook from the north, Worden Brook from the west, and several small unnamed streams.

Natchaug is a 12000 acre State Forest and James L. Goodwin State Forest at 2000 acres, are located in east central Connecticut along the Natchaug River.
Branching from the Air Line State Park Trail at Rt 66 near Willamantic, this trail winds approximately 15 miles to the northwest.
Mashamoquet Brook State Park offers camping, fishing, swimming and picnicking, and is located on Rt 44 outside Pomfret, CT. Trails lead through the park, and on leads to the "Wolf Den", where Isreal Putnum is said to have tracked down and killed the last wolf in Connecticut.

The DEP, which operates the state parks system, instituted the system-wide alcohol ban (a few smaller state parks have banned alcohol for years) after problems controlling rowdy and obnoxious crowds at Sherwood Island and Squantz Pond in New Fairfield grew worse last summer.

Because this lake is in the extreme northwest corner of the state, it tends to freeze over early in the year, giving December anglers full access to its 562 acres.
Once in the park, follow the signs to the beach, which is in the back end of the cove.

 ALCOHOL USE IN STATE PARKS
In January 2000, DEP expanded the prohibition of alcohol possession or consumption to all state park beach, boardwalks, and other posted areas (from the 13 posted parks to all 93 state parks, 28 state forests, and all 17 state campgrounds (Ct. Regs §23-4-1)) because of alcohol related incidents on state land.
For example, from September 1998 to September 1999, 265 of the 1,011 (approximately 26%) arrests and infractions recorded by DEP law enforcement personnel at state parks were alcohol related.
DEP expanded its ban in January 2000 to cover all 93 state parks, 28 state forests, and all 17 state campgrounds.

Acquisition of forested mountain land in northern New Fairfield began by the State of Connecticut, and the Pootatuck State Forest exceeded 1,000-acres by the mid-1940's.
A small light industrial park was created in the 1980's on the north side of Saw Mill Road, restoring a historic industrial base lost since the nineteenth century; several small enterprises totaling 9-acres have been built there.

Squantz was a chief of the Pootatuck Indians who lived in the area.
In 1948 a small section of the lake became a town park for the Danburyites.
From the west side, the main trail starts from the north end of the picnic area; it follows the edges of the pond’s western shoreline for 2 miles to a peninsula that juts out into the lake (and has an unobstructed view of the entire pond).
