Squaresoft has given me more gaming memories than any other company around, from the first Final Fantasy game I ever played eleven years ago on a Gameboy to Xenogears, whose deep story line will stay with me always.
Naturally, with my love of all things Squaresoft, I was very interested to see what they were showing at E3 this year.
During a short movie about their upcoming games, Squaresoft very quickly flashed a picture of Aya, then the words, "she's back." I haven't seen anything else about it, and it wasn't in their press kit.

I pick on Squaresoft only because I think they are one of the few companies who could do it right.
In fact, the male gamers that I talked to said that they were more likely to play a game with a female lead than a similar game with a male lead because they are generally a little bit more thought out and the plot ideas are fresher.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Suikoden for PlayStation 1 at Epinions.com
From the early days of the 8-bit NES to the present day PSX, Square has always been a leader in the RPG scene with the help of their flagship Final Fantasy series, which was vastly superior to all other RPGs of its time.
Other lesser known RPGs like the poorly made Beyond the Beyond tried muscling in on Squaresoft's turf but was later given the old size 22 in the butt by irate gamers and never heard from again.
Putting BOF & PS aside, it wasn't until later when Konami unleashed Suikoden, their rookie venture into the seemingly hostile RPG territory, did gamers realize that there were others besides Square's FF series that were actually worth playing.

Since I hate RPGs, and Squaresoft / Square-Enix / whatever they are now has dumped the most played RPGs onto the market, I therefore hate them.
I don't think squaresoft sucks, but am playing Final Fantasy X for the first time right now.
Square can be commended for at least pushing games of quality, that were obviously worked on very hard, and differeing the story lines and settings from game to game which at least makes the games unique in their own way (although with FF X-2 I guess this is going away too)

Eyes on Final Fantasy Forums - Best Squaresoft game ever   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
But you got all my favourites, so it doesn't bother me. Final Fantasy VII is the best, with a VERY close second from Xenogears, and a slightly further third in Chrono Trigger.
Beyond that it's a good game, but not a great game, and certainly not the best squaresoft game of all time.
In any case, I chose not to vote, because while ffvi, vagrant story, and xenogears are some of my favorite games of all times, I don't think squaresoft was well represented by the poll.

SquareSoft has always had a sure-fire hit when releasing any of their Final Fantasy titles, and Final Fantasy VIII should be no exception.
Sometimes accused of being "masochistic" or "mindless" Squaresoft fans, the truth of the matter is that over the course of many years and many games, we have seen Squaresoft time and time again show that they simply tower above the competing videogame developers.
Square and their games are not perfect, but they certainly come closer to perfection than anyone else.
