Srbinje (Србиње) known prior to 1992 as Foča (Фоча),, a town in the Herzegovina region of Republika Srpska.
The Ottomans left Srbinje a marvel of architecture, the Aladza Mosque, claimedly one of Europe's most beautiful, that was burned by the Bosnian Serb Army on April 22, 1992.
All of the city's Bosniak inhabitants were forced to leave, and it was renamed Srbinje, literally place of the Serbs (from Srbi Serbs and -nje which is a Slavic locative suffix).

The arrest of Dragan Gagovic, indicted for war crimes, which was recently attempted by SFOR near Srbinje (Foca) and which ended with his murder, roused a gust of public reactions in Republika Srpska.
Gagovic was shot in his vehicle at the chackpoint put up there by members of SFOR for the purpose of the arrest on the road near Srbinje.
On that same day, citizens of Srbinje demolished offices of the IPTF in demonstration, injured a few policemen and turned a few of their vehicles upside down.

By D. The night of October 12 in Srbinje Janko Janjic, also known as Tuta, blew himself up with a hand grenade in self-defense after SFOR troops came to arrest him.
The operation in which Janko Janjic was to have been arrested and extradited to The Hague was led by members of the German contingent of SFOR.
Around midnight, we learned in police headquarters in Srbinje, they used three vans, two jeeps and two armored transporters to block Njegoseva Street and the entrance to the building where Oliver Janjic lives and where his brother Janko, publicly indicted by the Hague tribunal, was also staying that night.

After two years and four consecutive deadline extensions, the BOT tender for Buk Bijela (450 MW) and Srbinje (56 MW) on the river Drina in Republika Srpska, has been closed on April 30, 2004.
The first two of them (Buk Bijela and Srbinje) should be located at Foca, having a power of 450 MW, predicted cost of 259 million $, expected to be finished in 2008.
Buk Bijela and Srbinje should be built under a 30-year concession by an American company, Barak.

SRBINJE - The police station Srbinje (CJB) announced that they were informed by phone that the SFOR members "in the framework of its mandate and authorisations, and in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution number 827, at 7:50a.m.
In the announcement is said that "arresting has been conducted by request of the Hague War Crimes Tribunal and the RS MUP will give more details during the day." Krnojelac, 58, was not on the list, among eight persons from this Municipality, who are officially charged with war crimes by the Hague War Crimes Tribunal.
SRBINJE - Regarding arrest of Milorad Krnojelac, director of the Primary School "Veselin Maslesa" in Srbinje a protest gathering was held, organised by teachers and pupils of this school.

As "Flash" finds out in Serb Radio Srbinje, there was the vice-president of Republic of Srpska (RS) Mirko Sarovic while in the name of local power and municipality of Srbinje there was Ljubo Veljovic the president of Commune Assembly, as well as many representatives of sport associations from the RS.
In Srbinje municipality January 13th is proclaimed as Day of sadness, and all preparations related for celebration of New Year are rejected.

SARAJEVO, July 20 (FENA) - The High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, wrote today to the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Dragan Mikerevic, expressing concern that the RS Government's response to changing the name of the town of Foca flouts the ruling of the BiH Constitutional Court of February of this year.
The RS Government's proposal is to replace "Srbinje" with "Foca/Srbinje", on the spurious basis that a High Representative's Decision prescribes this.
High Representative adds that the RS authorities must "apply the ruling of the Constitutional Court in all town names, including that of Foca, without any further delay or obfuscation since the Decisions of the Constitutional Court are final and binding".

 Foca
In 1992 militias from Serbia and Montenegro "cleansed" Foca of all its Muslim inhabitants, set up rape-camps and killing-centers, and dynamited, systematically, all traces of Bosnian Muslim culture.
They then renamed the city, "purified" of dissident Serbs and all non-Serb inhabitants, "Srbinje."
The Community of Bosnia has adopted Foca as its sister-community.
