Josif Rajačić (1785–1861) was metropolitan of Sremski Karlovci, Serbian patriarch and administrator of Serbian Vojvodina.
Rajačić was born in Lučani (Croatia), and died in Sremski Karlovci (Vojvodina, Serbia).
At the May assembly of Serbs in Sremski Karlovci in 1848, he was proclaimed for the Serbian patriarch.

Sremski Karlovci (Serbian: Sremski Karlovci or Сремски Карловци, German: Karlowitz or Carlowitz, Croatian: Srijemski Karlovci, Hungarian: Karlóca, Turkish: Karlofça) is a town and municipality in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia and Montenegro, situated on the bank of the river Danube, between Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Between November 16, 1698, and January 26, 1699, the town of Sremski Karlovci was the site of a congress that ended the hostilities between the Ottoman Empire and the Holy League, a coalition of various European powers including Austria, Poland, Venice and Russia; the congress produced the Treaty of Karlowitz.
The town was also the spiritual and cultural center of the Serbs in the Austrian Empire.

One of the decisions of the Assembly, proclaimed by Patriarch Josif Rajacic, was that the provinces Srem, Backa, Baranja and Banat became one autonomous Serbian Duchy called Vojvodina.
Karlovci became a part of Serbia in 1918, and after that event the town became a living museum of the past.
The Patriarchy Court was built in the place where the old court was in 1894, on the initiative of the patriarch Georgie Brankovic.

In recent times this Liturgy was per formed completely in August 1993 at a service in the Cathedral church in Sremski Karlovci during a church chant summer school.
At the concert it was performed for the first time by the Choir of the Radio and Television of Serbia with conductor Bojan Sudjic, in the Foundation of Ilija M. Kolarac in Belgrade in October 1993.
Komelije Stankovic therefore went to Sremski Karlovci (1855-l857) and to the Fruska Gora monastery of Ravanica (1861) where, with the help of the best experts in Karlovci Chant, under the supervision of the priesthood and patriarch Rajacic himself, he patiently put into notation the melodies of virtually the whole church repertoire.

In June and July, the Museum train “Romance” will be operating to Sremski Karlovci, Novi Sad, Smederevo, Bela Crkva, Vrnjacka Banja and Palic.
The price of the return ticket by “Romance” from Belgrade to Vrnjacka Banja, in the first class is 1.290, in the second 1.080 and in the third class 860 dinars, while children and pensioners have to pay 690 dinars.
By tradition, the “Romance” will be operating to Sremski Karlovci on 19th June and 9th July, with the departure from Belgrade at 8.45am and the return at 7.55pm.
