I heard that Sri Lankan are introducing a direct return flight from MLE to LHR in the near future, which would be my first choice for the future as the change in CMB added an additional 4 hours to the return journey home.
UL closley matches the low cost airlines, as I have been flying UL since 1985, I clearly remember the superb service and crew, equally the demise of the Air Lanka 1st class cabin appeared to be the start of this decline.
This complaint is not unique as several other Sri Lankans I spoke to spoke of their utter dissatisfaction with the treatment they received.

From talking to the other applicants I discovered that the whole process consisted of the first interview, which was merely a formality, where as long as you don't say anything completely stupid they just check your documents and give you a letter to attend a written exam 3 days from the interview date.
Converting in Sri Lankan is a pain in the **S; the employees who work at the tranportation board are the laziest people I have ever met.
