St Albans (thus spelt, no apostrophe or dot) is the main urban area of the City and District of St Albans in southern Hertfordshire, England, around 22 miles (35.5km) north of central London.
St Albans School, which occupies a site to the West of the Abbey and includes the former Norman Abbey Gateway, was founded in AD 948 and is the only school in the English-speaking world to have educated a Pope.
St Albans is home to one of the country's oldest and finest indoor skateparks at the Pioneer Youth Club, in Heathlands Drive, next to the fire station.

Becoming one of the first parishes in the United States to make a commitment to the Compass Rose Society, St. Alban's Parish, Washington, D.C., chose not to take the easy way by contributing from its annual operating budget or by using endowment funds.
Instead, Rector Frank H. Wade asked parishioners to consider a special Lenten offering and the result was a generous contribution, enough to provide the parish's $10,000 membership for Compass Rose and to fund St. Alban's partnership with a local elementary school.
The St. Alban's method of producing funds for the parish membership through a cooperative Lenten offering is an interesting and effective way for a church to become a Society member without taking funds from other purposes.
