  St Albans Abbey to Hatfield
Albans Abbey Station preceded the main line Midland Railway station by 10 years; it became the terminus of two branch lines, the LNWR line from Watford and the GNR line from Hatfield.
There were several early proposals to provide St. Albans with a rail service and on 4th August 1853 the LNWR received parliamentary approval to construct a line from Watford; the single track branch opening on 4th May 1858.
Although the line was never made permanent it was substantially built and there have been many local requests over the years for the link to be reinstated.

The St Albans Abbey Branch Line is a railway line from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey railway station.
The branch line, single throughout, was opened from Watford Junction by the London and North Western Railway on 5 May 1858, the first railway to reach the town.
The terminus at St Albans had a name change to St Albans Abbey in 1924 to distinguish it from the Midland Railway main line station, opened in 1868.

It leaves the North Kent Line immediately on the Down side of Blackheath railway station and travels due east for 8 miles (13 km) to a junction with the same line south of Slade Green.
There was a line to the south (the Dartford Loop Line) but, in spite of public pressure in the 1880s, the South Eastern Railway (SER) refused to build a line to serve the area between the two lines.
The line was electrified with the other SECR local routes to Dartford on 6th June 1926 by Southern Railway.

 St Albans Street Railway
The postmark is St. Albans 1906 Oct 24 TR 2 R.P.O. a second postmark reads Georgetown, Mass.
Before 1905 the electricity for the St. Albans Street Railway was steam generated in the single floor part of this building.
Permission to abandon the line was given in 1921 and the last trolley rolled down the tracks on November 11 1921.

First to arrive was the line built by the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway and its subsidiary the Stonebridge Railway from Hampton-in-Arden, Warwickshire, on the London and Birmingham Railway, to Derby.
This line met with similar problems at Hitchin as the former alignment had at Rugby, so in 1868 a line was opened from Bedford via Luton to London St Pancras.
The line was once the Midland Railway's route from London St Pancras to Manchester, branching at Ambergate Junction along the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway, now known as the Derwent Valley Line.

The Line then continues through the Eastman Way industrial area where the path is interrupted for a short distance.
Named after the yew trees which line the edge of the path, the wood is an important wildlife habitat island in an otherwise built up area.
With the closure of this part of the line in the 1950's the viaduct was demolished in 1960.

The 'Abbey Flyer' is the colloquial name for the train that runs along the 6.5 mile branch line between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey stations in Hertfordshire.
In 1995 five daily trains were withdrawn, and despite the electrification of the branch as recently as 1988 - it was proposed to replace the modern EMUs with 36-year old diesels.
In 2004 the fortunes of the line took a turn for the unexpected whe the line was selected to become one of the UK's first official 'Community Railways'.

The present main line from Long Island City to Jamaica was built by the LIRR in 1860 to replace the Atlantic Ave.
The LIRR's line was abandoned from Garden City to Hempstead in 1878, and when a new line (the present West Hempstead Branch) was built in 1893 northward from Valley Stream, the Central's line was moved to the present ROW so that a connection could be made between the two at Country Life Press.
The line was extended to Hammel in 1872.

By April 1958 the Belmont branch was steam worked, as the serviceable ACV cars were confined to the St. Albans line, after only a brief appearance between Harrow and Belmont.
The following month the DMU set on the St Albans branch was under repair, and so the only serviceable ACV set 79740/3/6 had to cover this from the 11th to 13th Aug, with steam once again on the Belmont branch.
The St. Albans branch was normally run by a single vehicle, such as 79743 on 22/3/59, but on the 12th April a 3-car set 79742/5/6 was working.

Located a short distance from the town centre, it is served by the West Coast Main Line (WCML), the local DC electric line to Euston and a branch line to St Albans.
For main line inter-city services (provided by Virgin Trains), Watford Junction is the penultimate stop on the southbound WCML before Euston, and it is designated as a "set-down only" station for southbound services, or a "pick-up only" stop for the equivalent northbound services.
However since 1982 the portion of the line north of Harrow and Wealdstone has only been served by what is now known as the Silverlink Metro service working out of London Euston; this service uses these DC lines for its "all stations" local service.

This later became the first electrified line in Australia, and due to the sale yards by 1873 the Victorian Railways had extended the line all the way to Albury.
These two lines are closest to the old brick wall at Kensington next to grass that formally was two goods lines which was ripped up in the early 80’s.
The Broadmeadows line connects with 2 tram lines and countless bus routes and is a vital link in the North West transport system.

At his direction and influence the line was built through Northfield rather than the State Capitol of Montpelier,leaving the State House on a branch line.
In 1860 the headquarters of the Vermont Central in Northfield was consolidated with the Vermont and Canada facilities in St. Albans.
It was at this time that the lines forming the Rutland Railroad were dropped from the CV system,along with the Sullivan County Railroad, creating a fifty mile gap in the CV mainline which would not be patched until Amtrak and the federal government intervened and gave the line back to the CV in the 1980's.

The old west track is paved over, the line is using the east track here.

Somewhat later the GER built another branch line from their Hertford line, north to Buntingford to serve a rich agricultural area.
There were no sharp curves to speak of, the line could have been built to sg on much the same alignment, but to its detriment it was built ng because it was cheaper.
The line, like the W&L served an agricultural area, tho the terminus on the coast also had a fishing industry of sorts, a brewery (still going; excellent beer!), and was a popular resort in Victorian and Edwardian times.
