Dunstan's first care was to reerect the church of St. Peter, rebuild the cloister, and re-establish the monastic enclosure.
In 973 the seal was put on St. Dunstan's statesmanship by the solemn coronation of King Eadgar at Bath by the two Archbishops of Canterbury and York.
