The name St. Allen is that of a local Celtic saint variously spelt-Alune and Allun.
It was originally the property of the monks of St Petroc at Bodmin, and was seized by Count Robert of Mortain, half brother to the Norman William.
This church, because of the remoteness of St Allen, was used for evening services, especially in winter, and for weekday events such as classes of all kinds, missionary and other lectures.

The military cemetery is an extension of the local communal cemetery of the village of St Erme, which is situated 15 kilometres south-east of Laon and 30 kilometres north-north-west of the town of Reims.
From Junction 13 (Laon) of the A26-E17 motorway, head south on the N2 Laon ring road for 4 kilometres, then turn left on to the Reims road (N44).
After 11 kilometres along this road, turn left on to the D90, signposted for St. Erme.

 Commemorations in Prestbury St Mary's Church and Churchyard
Clerk Basil St Merryn CARDEW, Royal Navy, who was killed in action at sea serving with HMS Monmouth on 1st November 1914 at the Battle of Coronel is commemorated on the grave of his parents.
He was the cousin of Lt John St Erme Cardew RN, who died of illness 9th January 1917 and who is buried in Great Witcombe (St Mary's Churchyard).
He is commemorated on the Prestbury War Memorial and on the Prestbury (St Mary's Church) Roll of Honour.

 John Flamank of St Columb Minor
James Tippet Flamank, baptised on the 7th of October 1846 in St Columb Minor, a Draper, married firstly Julia Porter on the 17th of March 1867 in the Old Church St Pancras, London.
Son John Henry was born in St Columb Minor in 1860, a Shoe maker, he died aged 52, unmarried in the workshouse, St Columb Major and was buried St Columb Minor on the 4th of June 1914.
Elizabeth, born on the 15th of July 1886 in St Erme, married Samuel Arthur Leverton (Half Brother to Mary Jane, who married Elizabeth's brother, James Job Flamank) on the 28th of September 1912 in Truro.

After this first attempt I attended weekly ring craft classes at the Village Hall, recommended by the late Margaret Christy-Davies, who lived near by and soon I sort of got the hang of showing a basenji and later pharaoh hounds.

Better do not take the first sign 'St Erme', continue on the RN1044, 7-10km, till after Festieux you see a sign: Courtrizy/Fussigny, St Erme (D90) follow this road, means follow the white line in the middle of the road.
If you get lost, ask in St. Erme for the Couvent, rue Haute 15 everyone knows where it is and can show you the way.
(Reims is 37km from St Erme and Laon 20km).
