		Saints losing 13-12 at McLaren Field in the semi finals with the Villagers going on to shock the RL world by lifting their first and only trophy with a win over Widnes.
		Meanwhile their BBC2 Floodlit Trophy campaign suffered a shock defeat at minnows Bramley.

		The game itself is not as bad as most league fans think – unless you are watching a team that just wants to pick and drive all afternoon - it is just that we are spoiled rotten in Super League.
		There is a degree of spin here because despite the fanfare of their World Cup it is only England, Wales, South Africa, France, New Zealand and Australia who are going to win any meaningful international tournament.
		Clearly it is nothing to do with the quality on the pitch, because league is far more entertaining on all fronts, unless people actually like watching scrums and kicking contests.

		Great Britain international Paul Wellens got on the scoresheet in the 15th minute with Long converting, before the scrum-half failed to convert his own try on 29 minutes to end the first half scoring at 22-2 to the Saints.
		It was the Man of Steel show at Knowsley Road as Paul Sculthorpe scored four tries in the second-half as Saints put Halifax to the sword.
		Halifax remain rooted to the bottom of Super League after their 14th consecutive loss, which saw a major shake up from the side that lost to Widnes last weekend.
