The Church of StJohn and StMary was built in 1916 to serve the growing mining community around Hickleton Main Colliery.
The interior of the church had also suffered from damage and neglect and there were extensive works including repair and re-gilding of artworks, redecorations and lighting.
Community facilities and security were improved by the installation of a glazed screen between narthex and church and a new meeting room with kitchenette.
