Marist's earliest buildings are Greystone, St. Peter's and the Kieran Gatehouse, three structures dating from around 1865 that are listed on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places.
The Kieran Gatehouse has remained in constant use, first as a residence for teaching and working Brothers and then as headquarters for the Poughkeepsie Province of the Marist Brothers, a faculty residence, office space and a private home.

 Biography of St. Kieran
Kieran (Ciaran) of Clonmacnoise, also known as St. Kieran the Younger, was born around 512 AD in Connacht, Ireland, a town located in the northern part of County Roscommon.
Kieran departed Hare Island with eight monastic brothers, and eventually settled at a location in the center of Ireland, on the east bank of the River Shannon.
Because of his prominence in the early Irish church, St. Kieran is known as one of the “Twelve Apostles of Ireland.” The Feast of St. Kieran is celebrated on September 9th.

The former is founder of Seir-Kieran, Kings County (about A.D. 450), and also of the See of Ossory.
Kieran of Disert-Kieran, Co. Meath, called by the Irish annalists "Kieran the Devout", wrote a "Life of St. Patrick." He died in 775 on 14 June, on which day his feast is celebrated.
Clonsost, is commemorated on 30 April, and St. Kieran, son of Colga, on 19 May.

He was educated at All Souls RC Primary School, Coventry, and Cotton College (junior seminary) in North Staffordshire, before moving to the Venerable English College in Rome to study for the priesthood.

Legend: The heathen Irish tied him to a mill-stone, rolled it over the edge of a cliff into a stormy sea, which immediately became calm, and the saint floated safely over the water to land upon the sandy beach of Perranzabuloe in Cornwall, where his first converts to Christianity were animals.
Legend: St. Piran lit a fire on his fl hearthstone, which was evidently a slab of tin-bearing ore. The heat caused smelting to take place and tin rose to the top in the form of a white cross (thus the image on the flag).

Kieran Mac a'tSaoir of Clonmacnois was born on February 24, 515 C.E. He was the third son of Beoit, a chariot builder and descendent of the royal line of Eremon, and Dercara, the daughter of Ercan and granddaughter of Glas, the poet.
Kieran studied with Finnian at Clonnard, and was followed all the way to his teacher's by a cow and her calf, who provided milk for the entire community.

A Celtic monk by the name of St Kieran built a small wooden church on the site of the present church by about AD 600.
As early as 1236 records show that the Feast of St. Keverne was held on the nearest Sunday to the 18th November, a celebration releasing villagers from their daily drudgery.
During the period of want and distress in the l8th and part of the l9th centuries, St. Keverne Feast was like a ray of sunshine on a wintry morning.
