Telegraph | Property | Roving eye: Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight may be Britain's smallest county, but being an island gives it exotic promise, a fact not lost on the million or more tourists who visit every year.
At first glance, the same could be said of Isle of Wight Glass in St Lawrence, but closer examination reveals some impressive work, which is collected the world over.
Isle of Wight Glass was established in 1973 by the award-winning Michael Harris, head of glassmaking at the Royal College of Art in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and a man who was instrumental in the birth of studio - ie, designer/maker - glass in Britain.

BBC - h2g2 - Isle of Wight Radar During The Second World War - A612334
Radar on the Isle of Wight during the Second World War is a unique tale - for the Radar Station at Ventnor was the only radar station in the British Isles to have been destroyed during World War II.
The first mention of radar on the Isle of Wight took place in September 1935, when the RAF planned to build a chain of 20 radar stations covering the area from the Tyne to the Isle of Wight.
RAF St. Lawrence, like Bembridge, was a single-masted reserve station for Ventnor, in case the main Chain Home station was once again destroyed.

Coastal Management on the Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight has 65 miles of spectacular coastline, 28 miles of which are designated Heritage Coast.
The Isle of Wight Council and the Environment Agency are the two ‘operating authorities’ for the Isle of Wight’s coast, and in 1997 published the Shoreline Management Plan for the sub-cell that lies between Hurst Spit in the west and Selsey Bill to the east.
The advice given in the Shoreline Management Plan for Seagrove Bay, with its unstable slopes and crumbling seawalls maintained by the residents themselves, was for the Isle of Wight Council to intervene and ‘hold the line’ to protect the property along this stretch of the Island’s north-east coast.

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a railway run by steam enthusiasts, and in 1966 they managed to prevent a small, mile long, piece of track between Wootton and Havenstreet from being closed.
The closure of the railways was the biggest mistake that the Isle of Wight has suffered, and there are dreams that the Island will once more be covered in steam railway lines; being a haven for steam enthusiasts everywhere.

David did not let his mature entry into hospital pharmacy, and the fact that he participated in a rotation system of work with a pool of staff nearly 15 years his junior, affect his focus and commitment to his new employers, fellow colleagues, and the patients he served.
As a consequence, when he joined the staff of St Thomas’ Hospital, it was as a basic grade pharmacist and I learnt quickly that changing David’s mind on anything, once he had settled on an option, was not easy.
