St Mary Cray lies on the River Cray and is part of the London Borough of Bromley.
St Mary Cray, like St Paul's Cray has been somewhat overshadowed by the growth of nearby Orpington, which now provides local communities with their main shopping and business activities.
The area is now mostly suburban housing, and features St Mary Cray railway station, a High Street with a small parade of shops (at one time a longer high street, with more shops, than Orpington) and St Mary the Virgin church, after which the village was named.

At Foots Cray, and for the rest of the route through Bexley borough to Erith, you are in company with Section 2 of the London Loop, starting with idyllic Foots Cray Meadows, where you pass the ancient Five Arch Bridge.
The Cray Riverway continues through remote countryside beside the Darent, past an impressive raised dam, then along the south bank of the Thames, here a kilometre (half a mile) wide, with a good view of the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.
As far as St Paul's Cray the route is almost entirely level with a hard surface and dropped kerbs, but a 100m stretch in Riverside Gardens is on earth or grass.

St. Mary Cray had formerly a market, but it was discontinued in 1703, when the market house was blown down.

 St Mary Cray
Mary Cray, the most considerable of the villages which take their name from the river Cray (the others are St. Paul's Cray, Foot's Cray, and North Cray), in Ruxley hundred, Sutton-at-Hone lathe, is on a cross-road which connects the Maidstone and Hastings roads, 13 miles from London.
It had formerly a market, but it was discontinued in 1703 in consequence of the market-house having been blown down.

Father Brendan Bryne succeeded Father King as Parish Priest at St. Mary's and was presented with the problems of the last years of the war and the post war years.
In 1955, Father Byrne was transferred by the bishop to Sutton and was succeeded by Father V. St. Clare Hill.
The origins of the present building programme reach back to the work of the St. Mary's Church Building and Restoration Fund (mentioned earlier) and to the formation of the Parish Co-ordinating Committee in May 1968, which had the task of co-ordinating all the life of the Parish.

Cray Valley Amateur Boxing Club which opened in April at the Poverest Coronation Hall, has now moved to St. Andrews Church Hall, Lower Road.
The Salvation Army Band (St. Mary Cray Corps.) and the Poverest Primary School Choir sang traditional carols around a fire and a Christmas Tree which the public were invited to dress afterwards.
The Cray Valley Hub, a drop-in centre for youths, was opened at the former Black Boy Pub in St. Mary Cray High Street.

The River Cray is a tributary of the River Darent in southern England.
It rises in Priory Gardens in Orpington in the London Borough of Bromley (rainwater permeates the chalk bedrock and the pond is formed where the chalk meets impermeable clay).
It then flows northwards past an industrial and residential area of St Mary Cray, through St Paul's Cray where there was once a paper mill, through Foots Cray, and enters the parkland of Foots Cray Meadows.
