  Edward Adolphus Ferdinand Seymour, Earl St. Maur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He was known as Lord Seymour until 1863 when his father was created Earl St. Maur of Berry Pomeroy and he adopted his father's new creation as a courtesy title.
At an early stage he assumed the rank of Captain on the basis that along with his younger brother Edward Percy St. Maur (1841-1865) he had co-commanded Volunteer Cavalry in England; both brothers assuming the rank of Captain.
Ferdy and Rosina had two children; a girl Ruth (1867-1953) was born whilst the couple were in Tangier and a boy Richard Harold St. Maur (1869-1927) born in Brighton.

Milo de St. Maur undoubtedly held these lands in Monmouth, as well as those in Wilts and Somerset yet, immediately after him, we are told that the St. Maurs holding the Monmouthshire property and the St. Maurs holding the Somerset and Wilts property are separate families, having absolutely no connection.

Here St Maurus towards the middle of the 6th century founded the first Benedictine monastery in Gaul.
About the middle of the gth century it was reduced to ruins by the Normans; in anticipation of the disaster the relics of the saint were transferred to the abbey of Fosses (afterwards St Maur-des-Fosses: see above).
St Maur-sur-Loire was afterwards restored and fortified; the extant remains consist of a part of the church (i2th and i7th centuries) and buildings of 'the I7th and i8th centuries.

St Maur is an abbey in the Anjou/Saumur wine region on the south bank of the River Loire, east of Angers and west of Saumur.
The abbey is named after St Maurus, a hermit who came from Angers and founded a monastery in the 6th century on the site of the roman villa of Glanfeul on the Loire.
Excavations in the courtyard have revealed a 4th century Gallo Roman temple (nymphauem) dedicated to the water goddess (Nymphs); St Maurus converted this into a chapel, the column bars of which are visible.

Richelieu desired an amalgamation of all the Benedictines in France and even succeeded in bringing into existence, in 1634, an organisation that was called the "Congregation of St. Benedict" or "of Cluny and St-Maur".
Dom Maur Dupont, who was elected president in 1627, had already made an attempt to accomplish this; but the Chapter of 1630 appointed a commission, of which Dom Tarisse was the chief member, to reconstruct the whole work.
The discipline was marked by a return to the strict rule of St. Benedict.

Moved by the earnest supplications of his brethren, and the misery of the sick man, the Saint cast himself prostrate at the foot of the altar, pouring forth his soul in fervent prayer.
Whereupon St. Maurus went up to the unfortunate man, seized his crushed leg with his left hand, and with his right made the sign of the Cross over it, saying: "In the name of almighty God, arise and be cured," and immediately, to the joy of all, his crushed leg became whole and sound.
