There are eight universities in Ireland: University College Dublin (UCD), University College Cork (UCC), the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG), the National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM), the University of Dublin (Trinity College), Dublin City University, University of Limerick and the St. Patricks College Maynooth (The Pontifical University).
There are two colleges of education associated with DCU — one, which specialises in the education of primary school teachers and one specialising in the education of teachers of religious knowledge.
Patricks College Maynooth, founded in 1795, comprises the national seminary for the Roman Catholic priesthood and the Pontifical University (1896).

Maynooth campus consists of a North and South Campus.
Waste disposal, environmental management and sustainable use of natural resources are basic and fundamental concerns of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, and St. PatrickÕ College.
It is hoped that this project will influence a large number of people (at NUI Maynooth and other colleges) to change their behaviour both on the campus and at home.
