  Alcuin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alcuin of York had a long career as a teacher and scholar first at the school at York (now known as St Peters School, York, founded AD 627) and lastly as Charlemagne's leading advisor on ecclesiastical and educational affairs.
He was educated at the cathedral school of York, under the celebrated master Ethelbert of York, with whom he also went to Rome seeking manuscripts.
When Ethelbert was appointed Archbishop of York in 766, Alcuin succeeded him in the headship of the episcopal school.

In 1132 the prior and twelve monks of St Marys abbey, York, being dissatisfied with the easy life they were living, left the monastery and with the assistance of Thurstaii, archbishop of York, founded a house in the valley of the Skell, where they adopted the Cistercian rule.
Two years later they were joined by Hugh, dean of St Peters, York, who brought with him a large sum bf money and a valuable collection of books.
His example was followed by Serb, a monk of St Marys abbey, York, and by Tosti, a canon of York, and others.

Following repeated remonstrances from the officers at the fort, Reverend John Milne was engaged and arrived at St. Peters in 1728.
Peters welcomed soldiers - marrying them and interring the dead in the church plot until it became necessary to build a larger church cemtery in 1756.
The only known image of the first St. Peters is a detail taken from a watercolor probably produced by James Eights during the 1840s or 50s.

York as you all well know is steeped in history, I remember reading somewhere that the history of York is the history of Britain.
Parts of the original St Leonard’s Hospital can still be seen in the museum Gardens (near the main gate), behind the City Library (best view) and in the basement of the Theatre Royal (although not accessible by the public it is found to the right of the main entrance).
Henry VIII was a frequent visitor to York and often stayed in the Kings Manor adjacent to the present museum gardens.

Dollery was born in New York City, the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Byrne Wolahan.
She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Albany and served as a volunteer at St. Peters Hospital for nearly 40 years, accumulating over eleven thousand hours of service.
She was a member of the St. Peters Auxiliary and served as its president from 1978-1980.

 Guy Fawkes Night: The Life and Death of Guy Fawkes
Fawkes' father had descended from the Fawkes Family of Farnley and was either a notary or proctor of the ecclesiastic courts and advocate of the consistory court of the Archbishop of York.
Fawkes, originally raised as a Protestant, was a pupil of the Free School of St. Peters in York, located in "Le Horse Fayre." This school had been founded by Royal Charter of Philip and Mary in 1557.
During Fawkes' time at St. Peters, he was under the tutelage of one John Pulleyn, kinsman to the Pulleyns of Scotton and a suspected Catholic who, according to some sources, may have had an early effect on the impressionable Fawkes.
