St Clears (Welsh: Sanclêr) is a small town on the River Taf in Carmarthenshire, west Wales.
The Norman St Clears Castle was constructed, the castle mound can still be seen, and in the twelfth century the town grew around it.
The building of the railway was responsible for the decline of many of the small ports along the Bristol Channel coast, and ST Clears was no exception.

The motte-and-bailey castle at St Clears is situated on the junction between the Taf and Cynin rivers, probably at the limit of navigable water for the shallow-draught boats that the Norman settlers would have used.
Giraldus Cambrensis mentions St Clears Castle by name as the home of 12 archers who had murdered a young Welshman who was 'devoutly hastening to meet the archbishop' presumably to offer himself as a crusader.
St Clears does figure briefly in the Glyndwr uprising in 1405, when it was besieged and presumably captured along with the castle at Carmarthen.

 Fish catches on the Taf
Seatrout of 5lb and 7lb were caught on Whitland waters at Fforest and Tynewydd in May. In June and July night time flyfishermen began catching smaller seatrout to 3lb but not in the usual numbers.
Ray Amner caught a 5lb sewin on the lower stretch of the St. Clears water.
Eifion Davies (Eifion the Plumber) and his son Robert have both caught sewin up to 4lb on the lower St. Clears beat and Phil Lewis has taken one of 3lb plus.

Canon Thomas is walking 50 miles from Carmarthen to St David’s Cathedral, to raise money for the rebuilding of part of St David's Church, which was badly damaged last November.
Other civic and church dignitaries will be meeting him along the route at St Clears, Whitland, Narberth, Haverfordwest and St Davids.
This is not the first time that Canon Thomas has a made a pilgrimage to St Davids.
