It will be the first concert south of the river by the nation’s only full-time professional chamber orchestra, which is widely regarded as one of the world’s best chamber orchestras.
SPCO musicians will hold an open rehearsal for band students earlier in the day and attend a reception after the 7 p.m.
The SPCO is “a smaller orchestra whose repertoire is somewhat limited by our size,” said Kornacker, 61, who has three children with his wife, Sigrid.

He launched the orchestra's CONNECT (Chamber Orchestra's Neighborhood Network of Education, Curriculum and Teachers) program, as well as conducting and soloing in the Twin Cities and on tour.
He began conducting St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) subscription concerts in 1996, and he recently led the orchestra and the Dale Warland Singers in performances of Handel's "Messiah" in both concert and sing-along versions.
Remaining tickets for Bobby McFerrin and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra are $27 and $25.

The orchestra certainly does have the funds to commission works and this has been and continues to be the case.

A chamber-like intimacy was undoubtedly the order of the day, and the musicians of the SPCO did well in listening to one another: fully responsive to their colleagues and to their conductor, as individual entries eased their way comfortably into the music's delicate texture.
Petrouchka is called to mind in the second movement; and the composer's highly-derivative streak is multiplied in the third movement as he unabashedly lifts from Le Sacre, seemingly to evoke a raw, savage dance.
Ravel-ian rhythms prevail in the "Ghost" and its accompanying "Dance of Terror" scenes; and the orchestra was definitely up-to-task in the quick, pointed figures — thumbs-up, too, to the pianist who played magnificently in the tutti-passages.
