A Cornish saint of Celtic origin, St. Ronan preached throughout his part of the Celtic Christian world, particularly in Cornwall and Brittany.
Scott's St. Ronan was a Celtic monk who advocated the use of the Roman rather than Celtic manner for the calculation of the date of Easter.
This St. Ronan is the patron saint of the Scottish town of Innerleithen.

A second Ronan is the Scottish bishop of Kilmaroren in Lennox, implausibly identified with the Irish monk who defended the Roman calculation of Easter at Whitby as described by Bede.
This Ronan has the 7 Feb feastday and is celebrated by St Ronan's Well at Innerleithen in Peeblesshire, as popularised by Sir Walter Scott, where according to tradition the saint came to the valley and drove out the Devil

Opening the programme of music was Borders Champions, St. Ronan's Silver Band under Conductor David McLeod.
Prior to the West Lothian Band concert, the St. Ronan's Future Band took to the stage a delighted the crowds with a variety of pieces under their leader, David McLeod.

St. Ronan's Silver Band from Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders has a new Chairman, following the annual general meeting held recently.
Ronans Silver Band is back on the competition trail on Saturday (3 September) when the Band travels to Newtongrange to take part in the annual Brass in the Park challenge.
Ronans Future Band will also be taking part in the contest under their leader, David Robb.

GIFTS were presented at a St Ronan's Silver Band barbeque to former conductor David Robb and his wife, Adrianne, a former member who played for 25 years during which she was also librarian for a long spell.
David served for seven years during which the band developed from a non-contesting ensemble to win promotion from the Fourth section.
The band, based at Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, also made awards to Player of the Year BBb bass Randy Hudson and joint Members of the Year Lynne Belleville and Mark Cockburn.

Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder of 24-year-old Jonathan O'Reilly who was shot dead in a gangland killing outside Cloverhill Prison in Dublin last month.
Brian Kenny, 34, of Kilshane Cross in Finglas, and 24-year-old Thomas Hinchon, of St Ronans Close in Clondalkin, were remanded in custody for a week.
Both are due to appear again at the District Court in Cloverhill on May 20.
