Stab (Luftwaffe designation) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During World War II, the suffix Stab was used in German military aeronautics to help distinguish between the State Major in Flight (direct air command) of each Gruppe (Group) or between Geschwadern (Wings) inside German Luftwaffe units.
These air command wing or squadron units used the green colour of their aircraft and individual identification letters to distinguish their aircraft from the rest of air units in same sections.
An airplane codified "A", green in colour, with D/St.III/St.G.77, indicated it was a member of Stab III of Stukageschwader (Dive bomber squadron) No. 77.

Although Luftwaffe simply means "air force" in the German language, some English speakers prefer to refer to Germany's modern air force as the German Air Force to avoid potential confusion with the Nazi-era air force, since this force is often referred to as the Luftwaffe in English.
The Luftwaffe had the ideal opportunity to test its pilots, aircraft and tactics in the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939, when the Condor Legion was sent to Spain in support of the anti-Republican government revolt led by Francisco Franco.
Amongst the designers sent to Russia was Dr. Hans Wocke, the man who designed the world's first forward-swept-wing jet bomber, the Junkers Ju 287, the first prototype of which, the Ju 287V1, had flown during the war on test flights.

The result was perhaps the Luftwaffe's greatest wartime failure, ranking right up there on the top of the disaster scale along with the Heinkel He 177.
The Luftwaffe had originally anticipated that the first Me 210s would enter service in mid 1941, and assembly lines had been laid down at both the Augsburg and Regensburg Messerschmitt plants, and plans had been made for the Messerschmitt plant at Braunschweig to switch from Bf 110 to Me 210 production.
However, even the top brass in the Luftwaffe eventually had to admit by the end of 1941 that the Me 210 as it currently existed was totally unsuitable for issue to operational units.

The designation change from Fw to TA was to honor Kurt Tank who had designed the extremely successful Fw 190 series.
The development of the TA 152 came about as the Luftwaffe saw the threat of high-altitude bombers and reconnaissance aircraft which could be fielded by the allies and which would prove difficult, if not impossible, by current Luftwaffe interceptors to engage.
Such was Tank's sway that he was able to go around the usual aircraft naming scheme and his two models, the Ra-2 and the Ra-3, became the TA 152B and the TA 152H respectively.
