Vocalist Christopher Hall and keyboardist Walter Flakus met in 1985 and formed the industrial rock band Stabbing Westward in Chicago.
The touring and promotion had built a solid, albeit small fan base which provided the launching pad for the second record's first single, "What Do I Have to Do." The single became a Buzz Clip on MTV, and by the summer, it was a modern rock radio hit that pushed the album to gold status.
Stabbing Westward received further exposure that summer when they opened several dates for the reunited Sex Pistols.

Stabbing Westward was, by far, the best small venue act I've seen all season.
It's not fair to call Stabbing Westward an industrial band because they've go so much more going on in their music and a lot of that can be credited to the man behind the drums Andy Kubiszewski.

The show was billed as Placebo and Stabbing Westward, but somehow along the way, Flick, from Missouri, got stuck on the front end of the whole she-bang.
The crowd, which seemed to have several Placebo fans intermingled in the Stabbing Westward bunch, cheered at the beginning of "Brick Shithouse," but I found a lot of people escaping into the Tamiami Bar at the back of the venue just to get away from the lead vocalist's whiny British singing voice.
All in all, Stabbing Westward and Gunburner were a delight and a joy, and I'd give the last half of the show a double thumbs up.

I don't really know what possessed me to go see Stabbing Westward this time knowing that they were playing the night before I was flying out of town.
But I guess what really did possess me in the end was that I really like Stabbing Westward, know they put on one hell of a show, and think their latest CD, "Darkest Days," is pretty much just awesome.
Well, as much as Stabbing Westward's music can be deep, dark, and depressing, this time around the band seemed to just be busting with a confidence I don't remember from them in the past.

Stabbing Westward have always had a mix of industrial overtones and crashing power chords at their disposal, but their self-titled fourth album focuses on their melodic side.
Stabbing Westward has always held a soft spot in my heart because of some of the things they've done in the past, but I actually let this release slip by me for a while because I was afraid it would be much of the same and that's not what I wanted.
For that reason, I'd highly recommend it to Stabbing Westward fans that can stand the idea that some things can change and still remain the same, and I'd also tout it to others to at least sample.
