  CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Andrew
Finally Andrew was chosen to be one of the Twelve; and in the various lists of Apostles given in the New Testament (Matthew 10:2-4); Mark, iii, 16-19; Luke, vi, 14-16; Acts, i, 13) he is always numbered among the first four.
As one of the Twelve, Andrew was admitted to the closest familiarity with Our Lord during His public life; he was present at the Last Supper; beheld the risen Lord; witnessed the Ascension; shared in the graces and gifts of the first Pentecost, and helped, amid threats and persecution, to establish the Faith in Palestine.
When the Apostles went forth to preach to the Nations, Andrew seems to have taken an important part, but unfortunately we have no certainty as to the extent or place of his labours.

As the apostles were dispatched to the lost tribes of Israel in about A.D. 42, they initially ministered to the tribes of Israel and afterward to the indigenous peoples of these regions who were also coming into the Church.

The Confession of Dositheus @ ELCore.Net
To their succession to the Apostles’ dignity and authority Eusebius, the [friend] of Pamphilus, testifieth, and all the Fathers testify, of whom it is needless to give a list; and this the common and most ancient custom of the Catholic Church confirmeth.
Further, that it is a true and propitiatory Sacrifice offered for all Orthodox, living and dead; and for the benefit of all, as is set forth expressly in the prayers of the Mystery delivered to the Church by the Apostles, in accordance with the command they received of the Lord.
If, therefore, what the Monks do is what the Apostles and Prophets did; and, we may say, what the holy Fathers and Forefathers of Christ Himself did; it is manifest that the prayers of the Monks are fruits of the Holy Spirit, the giver of graces.

Saint Patrick's Church: Saints of November 30
A later dubious tradition has him going to Byzantium, where he appointed Saint Stachys bishop.
Rather than miraculous legends the story of Saint Andrew is the story of the Apostles.
We always want extraordinary saints, and we are surprised to find that even among the Apostles there was one whose life was without miracles.

Catholic World News : Vatican explains suppression of papal title
In regard to Constantinople, the Catholic Encyclopedia states, "In the fifth century, we meet with a SPURIOUS document attributed to a certain Dorotheus, Bishop of Tyre at the end of the third century, according to which the Church of Byzantium was founded by the Apostle St. Andrew, its first bishop being his disciple Stachys.
As the East has always accepted the Latin Patriarch as spiritually pre-eminent as being the successor to the Chief Apostle, if not jurisdictionally supreme, why all the fuss?
Seems the Pope is becoming more Orthodox than the Orthodox, by returning a little closer to the pre-1054 way of things.
