It was the first race for both Tim and I, and we were eagerly awaiting the start even though the weather reports were rather ominous.
The route to checkpoint 3 was supposed to be a seven-mile hike that was mostly a gradual uphill to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The race organizers let us know that it was unlikely that we could make the finish line based off upon the current time and the distance we still had left; and they kindly offered to take our bikes and give us a lift back.
