Stage Fright - ALTERNATE MIX by The Band: Album Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The usual procedure for audiophile releases is to use the original released master of the album.
The group turned copies of the multitrack tapes from the Stage Fright sessions over to the album's producer, Todd Rundgren, and to engineer Glyn Johns, whom they'd met at the Isle of Wight Festival, and asked each to prepare a mix.
According to one account, the album released in 1970 consisted of seven songs prepared by Rundgren and three Johns tracks, but it's also been claimed that the Johns mixes were all that were used (that fits with the credits of the original album).

 The Band Album Reviews
Stage Fright (Capitol ’70, '00) Rating: A- Though not quite as fresh or consistent as Music From Big Pink or The Band, time has only been kind to Stage Fright, which was widely perceived as a disappointment upon its release.
Stage Fright can be seen as the band’s reaction to fame and fortune and all its attendant excesses (primarily drugs), and as a result the album sounds slightly world weary and features a darker hued perspective.
They give it their all, though, and this is still an essential album because of the many guests who were invited for this concert, which sent The Band off in grand style (it was their last concert with all the original band members).

End Stage Fright And Perform Brilliantly. London Based Hypnotherapy And NLP
The techniques used to end stage fight and empower the person to go into that state of flow when they are absolutely at their best are quite similar to those used to stop someone being afraid of public speaking.
Stage fright occurs when the person's imagination is a little out of control, and thoughts that they don't want to think seem to automatically come to mind.
The 'cause' of the stage fright is totally irrelevant in terms of resolving the fear, unless it is the case that the person is continually thinking of a specific event when things went wrong.

Stage Fright by The Band: Album Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Several of the album's later songs seemed to be metaphors for trouble the group was encountering, with "The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show" commenting on the falseness of show business, "Daniel and the Sacred Harp" worrying about a loss of integrity, and the title song talking about the pitfalls of fortune and fame.
The Band was widely acclaimed after its first two albums; Stage Fright seemed to be the group's alarmed response, which made it their most nakedly confessional.
It was certainly different from their previous work, which had tended toward story songs set in earlier times, but it was hardly less compelling for that.

Usually, in popular music, an album of an artist or group simply consists of a number of unconnected songs that the members of the group or the artist have written or have chosen to cover version.
For this album, the members of the band were each supposed to adopt a fictionalized persona, and the title song, styled as the theme song of the fictional Lonely Hearts Club Band, wraps around the rest of the album like bookends.
However, most of the songs on the album are unrelated to the theme, and the fictional characters have little life beyond the introduction of Ringo as Billy Shears on the first track.

Stage Fright is littered with lesser-known Robbie Robertson compositions possessing more modest charms than the overplayed likes of "The Weight" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." The title track is uncommonly hard-eyed and modern; Richard Manual's vocal, like most of his turns at the mic, is sparkling.
On the other hand, "Stage Fright" showed that The Band's music was capable of going in a different direction, as they would continue to prove throughout their tenure in the 70s.
Although "Stage Fright" may not be quite as amazing as its immediate predecessor, it is a wonderful album in its own right, and one of The Band's two or three best records.

Recorded in the haven of the Woodstock Playhouse in New York, "Stage Fright" has a loose, and most likely unintentional, theme that expresses the burdens of the music scene; it captures The Band (particularly songwriter Robbie Robertson) in a spotlight of praise from fans and critics that they were maybe unprepared for.

It is well known that by 1975 when this album was recorded, The Band was much less a band than they used to be, not due to loss of talent, but loss of the easygoing friendships that had fueled the first two albums.
But the album’s centrepiece has to be the epic “Acadian Driftwood", a nearly seven minute folkish narrative which chronicles the story of the Acadians, a people exiled from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in the 1750s.
Also, this album sounds more late 70’s due to Garth’s experimentation rather than the bland -Islands- that marked their departure (yes, it does have some good songs).
