He directed the revival of that show in 1929 along with George Gershwin's operatic treatment, Porgy and Bess, which opened on October 10, 1935.
He directed his first feature in 1929, Applause, which was one of the early talkies.
Rouben's film directing career came to an end when he was fired from two consecutive films, Porgy and Bess (1959) and Cleopatra (1963).

It definitely stands apart from other books about directors and directing because it is highly visual, there are loads of photographs throughout of the directors' work.
If it's for guidance directing a play or to write an essay on a director's methods, I wouldn't spend the money on it but would get it from a library for reference.
