Stagecoach was born of deregulation in the British express coach market in the early 1980s, though its roots can be traced back to 1976 when Ann Gloag and her husband Robin set up a small motor caravan and minibus hire business called Gloagtrotter.
A Stagecoach London vehicle, operating London Buses route 30, was destroyed in the 7 July 2005 London bombings and a second was targeted 21 July 2005 London bombings, operating London Buses route 26.
The bus was unveiled by the Mayor of London in a ceremony on 3 October 2005.

Stagecoach is seeking a new corporate headquarters in Perth and has announced plans to streamline its bus management in the UK to link Scotland with the north-east of England.
Stagecoach has launched a £368m bond to fund the purchase of 113 new trains, and this is expected to become a popular way of raising money in the UK transport sector.
Stagecoach, the bus and train company, is to raise £125m in a bond issue for use as a general "war chest" for corporate activity.

These tend to be areas served by subsidiaries of the Stagecoach Group, which operate their own comprehensive Stagecoach Express network, such as Ayrshire (Kilmarnock, Ayr and Irvine), Fife (Kirkaldy, Dunfermline and St Andrews), Dumfries and Galloway, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
However, on 13 September 2005, Stagecoach and ComfortDelGro agreed to a joint venture on the provision of express coach services in Scotland, ending the competition between the two operators.
Stagecoach staff have replaced much of the former Citylink management, while Stagecoach's Scottish subsidiaries have began operating many of the routes formerly operated by subcontractors displaced from Citylink work, such as Travel Dundee (a subsidiary of the National Express Group).

He said trials of a hovercraft between Fife and Edinburgh could be under way by September and a service introduced by late next year, without the need for expensive harbour facilities for conventional ferries, which could delay the project.
Stagecoach is pressing for a £15,000 trial of the service using a hovercraft borrowed from Isle of Wight-based Hoverwork.
Stagecoach said a hovercraft, which could land on a beach or ramp, would remove the need for taxpayers' money to be spent on expensive docking facilities for a ferry at Leith and Kirkcaldy harbours, both of which are tidal.
