Stagecoach West Scotland operates in west central and south west Scotland, in an area bounded by Greenock to the north, Glasgow to the east, Carlisle to the south and the Isle of Arran to the west.
Stagecoach operated in Glasgow as Magicbus in the late 1980s using old London Routemaster buses, though it sold the operation to Kelvin Central Buses in the early 1990s.

Stagecoach was born of deregulation in the British express coach market in the early 1980s, though its roots can be traced back to 1976 when Ann Gloag and her husband set up a small motor caravan and minibus hire business called Gloagtrotter.
Stagecoach also came in for criticism in 2000 over an attempt by Brian Souter to halt the repeal of Section 28 of the Local Govenment Act of 1986, which prohibits 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools.
A Stagecoach London vehicle, operating London Buses route 30, was destroyed in the 7 July 2005 London bombings and a second was targetted 21 July 2005 London bombings, operating London Buses route 26.

On September 6 2004, Stagecoach took over the Motorvator coach service between Edinburgh and Glasgow, selling a number of seats per journey through the Megabus site (the remainder being available without booking in advance, at regular fares).
In 2004, as competition between operators intensified, Stagecoach lost a contract to run a National Express route between Gloucester and London, prompting Stagecoach to introduce Megabus along the nearby Cheltenham to London route on September 5 2004.

Three of the artics are to go to Stagecoach Glasgow next week for use by Scottish Highway Express - the rumours are true - Stagecoach have taken over.
After proceeding to Saltcoats for a short stop, I continued to Irvine to see Stagecoach Glasgow B6LE 361/3 on A1 Service 21, looking freshly out of Glasgow, minus Megarider advertising (presumably because the frequency of the X8 group has been reduced these buses are spare).
Strong rumours presently circulating about Stagecoach taking over Scottish Highway Express (Owen, Chapelhall) - this seemed to be underlined by the fact that I could see a Volvo/Van Hool of that operator in the Stagecoach Glasgow yard at Blochairn.

The script has changed since the introduction of the Neoplan Skyliners, as Stagecoach are now referred to as "the best bus company in the world", and the vehicles are similarly titled.
As usual with the first tour of the year, it is a mix of hello to everyone you've not seen since the last one, mixed up with the usual bus-spotting.
Firstly, we left Glasgow on a Motherwell (or was it Cumbernauld?) based coach seated Olympian of First Glasgow No.2 Ltd, and headed straight up the Maryhill Road to Allander's Travel at Milngavie.
