The Stainforth Trophy, awarded annually to the operational station within Command that produces the best overall performance, was awarded to RAF Marham for the year 2003.
On 10 September 1929, George Stainforth became the holder of the world air speed record with a speed of 336.3 mph, increasing it to 407.5 mph on 29 September 1931, being the first man in the world to exceed 400 mph in an aircraft.
George Stainforth was a highly skilled aviator, an excellent flying instructor and a brave and experienced operational pilot.

Stuart, who manages the day-to-day running of the project with part-time worker Kathryn Haley, said: “The community wanted a local service that could tackle drug abuse head on, and our aim is to help local people stop using Class A drugs like heroin.
Based at Stainforth Family Centre, the project started out as a Drugs Focus Group, set up by Stainforth Community Partnership to gather ideas from local people on how they wanted to ditch drugs.

I'm pleased to be able to follow our report of the recent climateprediction.net story with an interview with the lead author of the study, Dr. David Stainforth from the University of Oxford.
Stainforth: The idea was stimulated by the launch of seti@home combined with the impossibility of undertaking systematic uncertainty analyses of climate forecasts using the computing power available within any of the modeling institutions worldwide.
The exploration of uncertainty, particularly at regional levels, requires vast computing resources which are only accessible using distributed computing.

In 1931, the parish of Stainforth was founded by the Diocese of Leeds.
In 1960, permission was granted for the construction of a School at Stainforth, at a cost of £70,000 and without a grant from the Education Authority, with the people of the district having to shoulder the debt, in addition to the High School at Cantley.
Upon his arrival at Stainforth in 1968, Fr Gallagher, or Pop G as he became to be known by the younger members of the parish, resided in a bungalow in Dunscroft.

This beautiful medieval packhorse bridge was a favourite haunt of Sir Edward Elgar who often visited his friend, Dr Buck in Settle.
Immediately over the bridge go left over the stile sign-posted Stackhouse 1¼ and follow the footpath down the side of the river for about one hundred metres where the Ribble has cut back into the limestone to form the picturesque Stainforth Foss, a series of shallow falls and then a deeper gorge.
Also note that in peak times this is a very busy spot although the cache is hidden a little way down the Ribble.

My Dad used to race greyhounds at Stainforth dog track, I used to play there with Anne Lovat, (we were at school together)she lives in Thorne, (now Anne Pennington,) Norman still around, Anne looks after him.

With only eleven older members and dilapidated premises, some of which couldn’t even be used because the floor was in danger of collapse, there wasn’t much hope for the future of Stainforth Methodist Church, and eventual closure looked inevitable.

My thanks go to the many people who contributed to this section, I am especially grateful to Gordon Stainforth, who worked as an editor on The Shining, for validated the information (or otherwise) and offered many useful observations and comments on the text.
However Gordon Stainforth, who joined the production just after the end of photography, says that he thought the shoot had taken the best part of a year.
But Gordon Stainforth contests this, "I'm sure Shelley never had to repeat a scene 125 times (I think the most takes on one scene was Scatman in the kitchen which was something in the order of 75-85 takes).
