Stalingrad, a 1993 German/Swedish co-production from Guenter Rohrbach, the producer of Das Boot, is such a picture.
Stalingrad faithfully re-creates the principal historical aspects of the battle while telling a more intimate tale through the eyes of a small group of German characters.
Stalingrad is packed with tension, and the battle sequences are startlingly realistic, but it's the inescapable message that lingers.

Stalingrad is turned into a hell of rubble and flame as the Red Army fights for survival, fall 1942.
Stalingrad was not the Holocaust, but its scale, its bleakness, its challenge to morality, to faith in a meaningful universe, demands an act of memory.
The battle of Stalingrad lasted more than six months, from the August aerial assault that began to turn the city on the Volga into rubble (and provided the Russian troops with ready-made defensive positions, as well as severely limiting the use of German armor) to Nazi Field Marshal Paulus' surrender on Feb. 2.

Stalingrad (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stalingrad is a 1993 film by Joseph Vilsmaier, similar to Apocalypse Now and Platoon in its approach to depicting the horrors of war in a realistic and unromanticized fashion.
The movie follows a platoon of German Heer soldiers as they are transferred from Italy and their recent experiences in North Africa, to Russia and ultimately find themselves unwilling participants in the Battle of Stalingrad.
The scenes in the city attempt to capture the nature of combat in Stalingrad.

A few interesting skirmishes highlight Stalingrad, among them a skirmish with your sense of disbelief when the film implies that the Germans were the injured party and were not such bad fellows after all--they even try to rescue a little boy who is basically a Russian version of comics kid Dondi.
Stalingrad sometimes sustains, but mostly loses, that chill in set piece after set piece: a battle in a wrecked factory; a suspenseful scene of a human tank trap made of a prison battalion; and a hellish slaughterhouse of a military hospital.
Stalingrad is the work of a German company with German stars, and maybe the film's most insoluble problem is this German perspective.

* The movie STALINGRAD, as its title indicates, is a narrative about the battle of Stalingrad, the confrontation between the German Wehrmacht and the Red Army from the late summer of 1942 to early 1943 that resulted in the destruction of the entire German 6th Army.
STALINGRAD is a fictionalized portrayal of the battle.
Finally, STALINGRAD is about two and a half hours long, and I think it would have had more impact and would have lost little if they had trimmed about a half hour out of it.

Stalingrad, from the producers of the classic Das Boot, is nearly unique.
The battle of Stalingrad, well known to historians, was one of the most viscous and bloody battles in the history of warfare.
The end of the movie has a strong anti-war theme, but it is well stated within the context of the subject matter.

Stalingrad surveys the misery of the battle of Stalingrad, the winter siege that cost the lives of almost one and a half million people, Russian defenders and German invaders alike.
This movie has surpassed any previous depiction of the stress and hardship's that the common soldier and civilian alike faced in WW2 that I have ever seen and I felt this is also the first war movie to take the glory out of battle and replace it with the truth "war is hell".
Of all his works Stalingrad stands out as on of those films that are enjoyable to watch if u are into "realistic war movies" (realistic compared to hollywood) but which fall short when it comes to story telling and depth of the subject.

The battle of Stalingrad (August 1942 - February 1943) was the death of Hitler's dream of the conquest of Europe and is probably the most famous battle in history.
There are two well-known videos available: (1) The 1993 German movie Stalingrad (made for the 50th anniversary of the battle) and (2) The 2001 US movie Enemy at the Gates.
The US movie shows matters from the Russian side, taking great liberties with the famous story of the duel between the top Russian snipper Vassili Zaitsev and his German counterpart while using up half the screen time with a fatuous and shallow love story in Hollywood soap opera fashion.

STALINGRAD by director Joseph Vilsmaier is an effective anti-war film that has more in common with ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT than with any other film.
In contrast, STALINGRAD is an ensemble piece (Fritz Reiser (Dominique Horwitz), Hans von Witzland (Thomas Kretschmann), Manfred "Rollo" Rohleder (Jochen Nickel), GeGe (Sebastian Rudolph), Irina (Dana Vavrova), General Hentz (Martin Benrath) and Otto (Sylvester Groth)) where we don't really know any one soldier as much as we get into their collective psyche.
STALINGRAD, as you may will have guessed, tells the story of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, the German siege of Stalingrad.

When we started developing Stalingrad we knowingly aimed an unoccupied niche of a “documentary” game, which thoroughly and precisely reconstructs of the battles of WW II.
From the viewpoint of technologies used in Stalingrad, these two games are very alike and despite the fact that buildings and units in Stalingrad have much more details, minimum system requirements are the same.

In the German-made movie Stalingrad, the tendency to make the war a German tragedy was dubious enough.
Stalingrad wasn't just the place where the Soviets slammed the Nazi menace to a halt; it was also a taste of the Mad Max-style wars of the future, in house-to-house fighting in post-apocalyptic weather.

As grim a depiction of war as we're likely to find in the movies, the stunning and depressing new film ``Stalingrad'' presents a point-blank look at one of the bloodiest battles of World War II -- from a German army vantage point.
For anyone interested in war movies, this one, from the producer of ``Das Boot,'' is likely to be a classic.
Two of the men, an idealistic young lieutenant named Hans (Thomas Kreischmann) and a gung-ho noncom named Rollo (Jochen Nickel), soon are part of a herd of troops dispatched to Russia to fight in what was to become a decisive World War II battle, and the first major defeat for Hitler's Third Reich.
